Medicine Lake

Post by anderson427 »

Good ice and snow cover on the south side of Medicine Lake yesterday. Any reports on other local lakes?

Camping out here at Spirit Lake, IA. possibly till next Sunday (Jan 17th). Still cautious of the ice but I see the slednecks are hitting it hard. No vehicles yet but the open water is now confined to under the bridges and inlets/outlets.

But I really do not stay on the flats in the winter. The terrain around here is epic. Just bring your rock board/skis. One more snow and it will be Epic all around.

Lake Calhoun is mostly covered with about an inch of snow with some bare spots. The ice below the snow is smooth. I was on south side of Medicine last week and you have to get out 100 yards past all of the footprints/tracks from the ice fishermen.

Waconia has 2-4" of snow that is pretty well bonded to the ice. Minimal traffic on lake currently so plenty of room. Ice still building slowly so suggest parking off lake & walk on. One fisherman tested ice this week with his F150 and failed!
