Best wind August I can remember

Post by Randy »

Usually we try to schedule our windsport trips end of July to end of August. That would be a big mistake this year. I can't remember in my past 30+ years here an August with this kind of wind. All the SUP instructors are complaining.

Hey Randy, we've had the best late summer winds here on northern Lake Michigan in years. I've been getting in about three 15-25 kite sessions and one or two 25-35 windsurfing sessions a week on the big lake since late July. As you note, these are usually the "dog days!"

I'll be back in MN soon . . . how about a September 15th jam?

I hate you guys  Here in NY we have had a bit more wind than usual but it's mostly marginal stuff. I will be coming back to MN in September, hopefully the winds will stay! I miss riding freshwater.

Yes, last Saturday and Sunday were Epic at Waconia. Super rare for August! So fun!

Amazing week. Tuesday, Judd and I had perfect 12M kite conditions in Duluth, Wednesday was junky wind, Thursday was perfect blue sky 12M kite on Forest Lake, Saturday was 4-4.5M at Lake St. Croix with Jonathan Townsend, and Sunday was 4m (8m kite) at Hunters on Lake Mille Lacs with Judd, Dianne and Kevin O., and back home again for beautiful 12m kite session on Forest Lake. Tuesday I could have gone again, but needed a rest. Truly a once in a lifetime August week, but I will rethink getting out of town for wind in August next year.
Bill, glad you're treated so well on Lake Michigan. Planning an October trip on one of the big lakes. Yes, let's look at a Sept. 15 jam somewhere, hopefully after another windy day.
Looks like next week's got some moderate southerly winds and heat.

Randy,

Where do you launch on forest lake? Does it only work with some east wind?
