Worthington - USWA National Championship - update

Post by bill keitel »

Greeting followers of the wind!

Just got an update from the national weather service and it looks like the long range forcast for June 10th thru the 15th will include High Wind Advisories and small craft warnings!

I wanted to update anybody that has windsurfed in the last 25 years to mark their calendar, whether you show up for the week or just the weekend.

There should be plenty of overflow campground space and we will see to additional facilities and portapots. If you are interested in motel space please PICK UP THE PHONE and make your reservations now. There is currently space available at very affordable prices in Wgtn. If you wait much longer you may be staying in a surrounding community (luverne, Windom, Jackson) 30 minutes from Sailboard Beach. When you call let them know you are a windsurfer and you might get some preferential treatment.

The USWA and the entirety of the USWA sailors are excited about this curious midwestern event. You, The sailors that post on this site are the reason for its notoriety.

We will be needing a bit of help as this event draws near and anybody wanting to assist W.O.W. will be greatly appreciated.

We will be needing some old masts (15 to 25) to fly contributor flags on site. If you happen to have a couple of old ones let us know & bring them along! We are busy beating the bushes for funding and things look pretty good , however we talked pretty big to the USWA board of directors, so we've got to deliver! (If anybody would like to see or distribute contribution forms call the Chamber of Commerce and talk to Hannah Keitel 507-372-2919.)

We have had serious inquiries from as faraway as Novosibirsk, Russia! (Julia Tsvaigboim - Silver medalist Baltic Cup, Gold medalist Winter windsurfing World Championship - Estonia)

The music part of the festival is starting to take shape and we've got 4 nights to fill, and we've got some pretty exciting leads to nail down. More info to follow.

In closing;

There are few sports that you can compete with the worlds best. Few people will ever golf with Tiger Woods. June 10-15 2003 you have the opportunity to sail and hang out with the Pritchard brothers,Phil McGain, Micah Buzianis and many others of National and world reknown. It is W.O.W. firm belief that the participation of past sailors in our regatta have caused us to gain this event, we are humbled , grateful and look forward to your help and participation.
