2 fantastic days in a row on the ice

Post by flynhi »

Absolutely great days still available on the ice! Was out 4 hours Tuesday afternoon on Lake Wissota in Chippewa Falls, at least 14" of ice (quit auguring and went kiting), lots of water on top of the ice until about 300yds out then firm and dry. Yesterday mid day for 5 hours or so on the lakes in Chetek Wi. Reports from fishermen of 27" of ice. Mostly dry and quite firm for the first couple hours after the cool night...softening up nicely when I had to leave (65 degrees). The area where the boat ramp went in was starting to melt to about two feet out...an easy hop to keep dry. At least a couple more days of riding if you can get away. Always be careful and aware...obviously conditions vary and can change quickly, but there are still some days left!!

I hear you! I have been on White Bear last Friday, Saturday, Monday and yesterday. Yesterday I wore my PFD! Its going fast but there was 28" of solid ice near the center of the lake on Saturday. Closer to shore in the shallows there was much less and in some places (south shore) there is quite a bit of open water. I am most likely done now. Yesterday was great fun.
