Fall Winds Have Arrived !!

After a weak August the winds are back! I had some good rides at WB on Mon and Wed. Yesterday Jim Watkins and I hit the St. Croix right when Mike Winter was leaving. Initially it was more NW and a little up n down but it went back to N and racheted it way up to 10m conditions. Sweet conditions for riding the swell and jumping. When it still had NW in it I caught some great updrafts along WI shore that gave me a huge boost and hang time - all in front of a river boat cruise which got a 100 ooouus. After 3 hours the wind finally backed off and it was time to go anyway.

Looks like an awesome 10 days of wind coming so get your honey do list done. Based on the 10 day MRF I'm thinking there are a bunch of options for wind:
Sat: SSW for Malmo or local
Sun: N going NE
Tuesday: SE all over - real good
Wed: still some good SE left over
Thur: maybe some W
Sat (9/22): building E-SE across state and NE on Superior as day goes on and then
Sun (9/23): HUGE SE across state with NE on Superior. Check out the almost hurricane like isobars Sun 9/22 at 7pm!

Ok so it's a ways out but nearly all the breezy days have been showing up a week out on the 10 day mrf - we'll see how these pan out...

Thanks Kevin. You are the forecast master.

You also appear to have a very short memory. This has been one of the windiest Augusts I remember. Normal summers usually leave the 12 and below quite dry. This July and August had so many Great 10 and 12m days. We had like 4 Fridays in a row. A ton of weekend wind, and evening sessions. There was no typical summer doldrums. Love that!!!

Keep your forecasting coming, but don't forget all the epic sessions.

I agree. It has been a great summer. Every weekend that I have gone to the cabin I have had at least one, if not two, days of excellent kiting, and that includes June. Also scored a couple nice days on Wac. Great summer, and now the best time of the year is here with fan-like winds, fall colors, and the lake to ourselves.

I'm thankful for any day on the water and we have a great summer overall. I was contrasting the september wind (4 days per week with stronger winds) with only August. I agree mid-June through the end of July was as good as summer gets with so many warm and windy smaller kite days and we were getting several per week.

I specifically mentioned August where we were getting about 1 kiteable day per week and there wasn't many high wind days like we had in June-July. I had one great August day at Reddy and another at Shell and then a few other short (1 hr) big kite sessions in August. Maybe you got more big days by driving to wind or your also remembering the great June-July or it felt windy since that 1 day per week in August landed on weekend so we could enjoy it. It's all good!

Forecast update:
All the forecasted wind days are holding except the the ones a week out are delayed one day. Looks like this Friday will be a big cold front with west winds and then Next Monday (9/23) will be the big SE day with it starting to build in Sunday.

Sat looks real weak all over. The front is sweeping through Thursday bringing some W winds going NW friday - the winds may not last that long on friday though as the timing of the front may not be optimal (ie best wind would have been overnight thursday). Then high and dry and calmer Saturday.
