Alone on a beach. Marquette Park. Gary, IN. Day one, drove all night and made beach at 10am. Winds on, waves 5-6 foot swells. Got a little publicity for the local scene. http://posttrib.suntimes.com/22379109-5 ... itors.html
Nice job on the local media attention, you guys must have caused quite the buzz around town. Spot looks fun, Sounds like its howlin too, good on ya guys!
Hey magicninja, glad to see you're getting some of this great wind! We've had an incredibly breezy summer on northern Lake Michigan. The next three days look solid. Post if you're headed to Leland and I'll come ride with you.
Going to give Platte Bay a try tomorrow its a NE. Got the hat trick today but it was really light. We rode big kites and big boards. Tomorrow looks good early am. ETA 730-8am. Come down if you can. George.
Hey George, I missed NE dawn patrol this morning due to a late night after the Michigan-Notre Dame game! The wind went easterly and calmed down during the day and then clocked back to the north about 5:00 p.m. at about 15-20 mph for a hour, enough for a short 11m session. Did you guys get some?
Tomorrow mid-afternoon till dark is looking like good SW wind from Point Betsie north.

Going to Hendryx Park off Lee Point south east of Leland tomorrow. Winds supposd to be SSE clocking to south. Do you recommend Point Betsie on a SE Bill?
Breakdown on SE at Point Betsie and next land you might see is Wisconsin. Lee Pt. on the bay side is good for S-SE. If the wind comes up I'll see you there--
Yeah we rode yesterday. In Glen Arbor Bay after getting skunked at Platte River. Ate lunch was going to call it a day when jason noticed white caps in the bay. Went down to the beach and it was blowing 15-20. Rigged 12s and a 16 and rode for 2 1/2 hours. Nice surprise eh! We are now chilling at Hendryx Park. Wind seems to be building on Lee Point. Four days in a row for sessions.
Well, 5 for 6 is pretty sweet. Had a impromptu session after eating lunch in Glen Arbor on monday in Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lake Shore. The wind gods blessed us out of the blue and we rode with the dunes and North and South Manitou Islands as a backdrop. We had a marathon session yesterday at fishermans side of the breakwall in Grand Haven, MI. Got to the beach at 9ish rode till 530 then hit rode back to the cities. 15-20mph winds. Sun, beach, beauties. This was all much more than I had anticipated. It's rare when the term epic can be used appropriately. From kiting while large salmon jumped in front of your board or carving 6 foot waves, camping and having a beer with friends around the fire. Michigan delivered in a big way and we only scratched the surface.
George.
Sorry we missed you Bill, next time. We will be back.

I agree with George, Lake Michigan definitely delivered with her smooth consistent winds and wide expansive beaches. At least 4 of the beaches we kited at could rival Hawaii in terms of beauty. The amazing part is most of them are between 7-9 hours from the Twin Cities! With all the campgrounds available along the shore, the trip was very inexpensive. I'll definitely be going back.
Minds awaken on roads less taken.

Hey George, sorry we didn't meet up for a session but glad you had a great trip! Late summer-early fall is such a sweet time on Lake Michigan with warm water and ridable winds nearly every day....
