Kite spots,Ashland or Chequamegon Bay, in a South wind??

Post by xrdave »

I am going to be in northern WI at the weekend., not far from Ashland or Hayward lakes. Forecast shows a good southerly wind. Does anyone know of kiting spots that work in a S wind? Any launch spots Chequamegon Bay that work in a southerly?

If your thinking hayward lakes, theres one I kited last year on a southerly and it worked great, Round Lake, crystal clear blue water. But the landing is kind of small, I needed to water launch. Its off of twin lakes rd off of hwy 77.

As far as Chequamegon bay goes, theirs nowhere to launch on that direction unless you have a boat to get you out too long island, than you've hit the pot of gold, seriously! Flatwater or big waves, your choice. Sandy and shallow forever. 8)

You're not exaggerating...Long Island looks amazing! Too bad it's not a bit easier to get too. The easiest way (sans boat) would probably be to kayak from Madeline Island?

Thanks, have a jetski, can get most places on that, so Long Island should be within reach!

If you do get a chance to go, please, please take pictures and post back. I would die to see some kind of footage from this area. Good Luck! :D
