Waconia on Tuesday?

Post by skattum »

Looking like it'll be heavy out of the south, anyone considering Waconia? Would like to be there around 3pm for my first MN water session since last fall... checking if anyone else is heading out.

I am planning on going for a swim tomorrow. Wind is looking perfect for my first water session of the year.
The only question is: will it be warm enough for a wetsuit tomorrow?
Obviously use your head to avoid hypothermia and know the conditions, but a dry suit will most likely be the safest approach.

I'll see you out there after 3pm.

Did anyone ride Lake Waconia yesterday? If so what is the water temperature sitting at?

I agree with Mark, it was truly a killer session yesterday. Water temperature was chilly but I was perfectly fine in a wet suit with booties on....no gloves needed.

Jim was going huge yesterday, claims he got a 40 footer in earlier around 4pm, I believe it.

Let's all hope for more 98F, dry heat, extremely windy days like this for the future.

Maybe I'm a little "high", but it felt like 40 feet! Fun to see such a big group of Kiters and Windsurfers Tuesday. At 3pm, Waconia was smooth as glass. A group of wind addicts stood staring at the lake wondering "where was the wind that was forecasted?" Scott Chapman and I checked out Hutch airport which reported winds 20-26mph. I started airing up my 10mtr Vegas. JRN called Chad at WBL, and he said the wind was blowing there. So JRN says "I think I'm heading for the Bear - no wind here". I'm saying, "15 mins and we'll have wind and we'll be riding, while you're driving across the country". JRN listened to the voice of reason, and sure enough, the wind came, blowing in the mid-upper 20s, gusting into the 30s and along came some nice sized ramps for big jumps. Solid 10 mtr riding and lots of smiles 8) along with hoots and hollers. Chris B. was sporting a new quiver of RPMs. He started on his 7 mtr, then switched to his 10mtr. He said he liked the RPM. Terry Dunkley is the "Master Toe-side Carver Extraordinaire". I was awed by the figure 8s he was ripping, like a snowboarder in powder, he was carving the waves. Eric P. inspired me to head out for a 3rd session after watching him catch big air. I had two sessions already, but took a nice long rest and couldn't quit while we had such summer-like conditions.
I went out for session 3 and was closely followed by Chris B. We rode into the sunset-ouch! that hurt! :)
Warm and Windy -was I in Minnesota, or was it a dream? Or was I just "high"?.......
