saturday stories

Post by KitingKen »

So what did everyone make out of today? I took my skis and 3m trainer out on waconia ant it was a good time. I've never trtries on bare ice. The only problem was trying to get the kite to stand still while I packed up. I let it go in to a death spiral finally. Any tricks for this to prevent it from relaunching when u don't have another person and winds are high?

Are you using an ice screw? They are a good second person that does not talk back. I hit Medicine on my skates for a while. It was doable but the ice was rough and it was gusty.

I brought skates too, but it looked like a faceplant waiting to happen! Skis maybe less good on flat ice, but nice for getting over cracks and snow patches.

I brought a sand bag which worked great for a launching...but of course no good for landing. Would you use the ice screw to hold the handle once kite landed at the side of the wind window and then walk out holding the lines or something? I'm trying to visualize how best to use the screw... Wouldn't the kite just relaunch while connected to the screw? Airfoil kite

SLINGSHOT MAKES A RELAUNCH KIT for 2 line trainers: A simple bridle attached to the trailing edge that will reverse launch it AND instantly depower it with a 3rd line to the bar or your harness. Tether that line to your ice screw. Mike K would be happy to procure one for you.

I had fun watching MK and Jason ripping up Ramsey on their SWITCHBLADES, while I tooled around freekskate style. One area of open water
we managed to avoid, and several iceboats were flying past at blinding speed. I kept a wary eye out for any renegade f'skaters breaking out from Bald Eagle, but was spared any intrusions. I did find the only patch of double layered ice, my blades dug in, but my body armor shielded me for enjoying more days of peril and Pammy's cookies.

I hit a small soccer field by my house that had a crusty coating of about 1in of snow and had a great 2 hour session with my skis and 10m taboo!
