Rum River Terrain

Post by Travii »

I hiked out with my boys today and made an exploratory survey of the Rum River Park area. This large piece of land has about 30 acres of open area with some nice hills and roughly 30 ft of vertical. The surface conditions are good with some scrubby weeds here and there. There are open areas too without weeds to land and launch the kites. The only parking is in the Anoka County Library parking lot. The hike to the field takes about 10 minutes and the wind direction looks like it will work tomorrow afternoon if anyone is interested. I might venture out tomorrow to play on the hills.

I though I might bring up another terrain idea from last year. I'd still like to give it a try.

How do you get there, it looks good. There are afew other places I might try that have terrain, I'll chime in after I try them as to where they are, secret spots.

My in-laws live close to here and I have taken a few runs back in that field, it is big and I think I would for sure work for kiting. The terrain should make it a fun spot!

Thanks for resurrecting. I recall these posts from the past but haven't made it out there. I drove out the other night and into the library parking lot. The large land nearest library looks inviting but it is closer to traffic. Your pictures are perfect, very helpful. Inspired me to do the same for 40 acre spot in Maple Grove, its awaiting construction and I've watched it throughout summer to observe hazards, didn't see any, have already taught a few lessons there and now have had my first snowkiting session of the season there. If you are interested, it is also public land, still deliberating on wind directions but West winds "may" be flooky:

if you go to rum river stay out of the field that is in the open by the library. a farmer farms his soybeans in it and doesn't get to happy about people in it. but if u park at the library and trek out on skis the field works nice.
