Duluth Wed

Post by Mike W »

Anyone heading up? Looks like a good day up there. Nearshore forecast does not call for much, but check out the experimental. Hourly readings at Sky Harbor are solid already.

Good call on Duluth Mike. It looks like they had near perfect conditions, I wish I could have made the trip. Did anybody make it out?

Nothin' better than a July Park Point day. Sinking pit in my stomach for missing it. Please, someone say you got out for the rest of us who missed it. Pictures would help ease the pain.

I am pretty wiped out, so I will keep it short. 10m kite all afternoon. Waves in the 4-5 ft. range. A windsurfer at Tot Lot was rigging down from 5.5 when I drove by, which gave me an accurate sense of what kite to rig. I had 22nd St. all to myself. 2 kites were going out at Tot when I left. Water was as warm as I have ever felt it. A Coast Guard boat was on patrol out past the breaking waves; I assumed they were looking for the pilot of the capsized sailboat on shore. It turns out they were keeping an eye on me. Apparently someone had called saying a windsurfer was in distress. They greeted me at the beach when I was done to see I was fine. Great day! I can't believe the near shore forecast called for 10-15mph all day. 20-30mph for the time I was out. Thanks again NOAA Experimental, the single best forecast tool there is.

Sounds amazing, I should have called in sick. Next time.

Mike- Could you share the link you use to check the NOAA Experimental? I haven't been able to find it since the links on the lakawa wind page have expired.

I was about to go out but got caught up in some stuff around the house. I wish I would have because some girl got caught on the lakeside of the breaker wall by the high bridge. She was too tired to get out of the water, had no energy, and the rescue squad ended up saving her.it was on the news. Iv'e always wanted to save a life with a kite! :D

The links on the wind page of this site work for 24hr and 72 hr Experimental. Those are all you really need. 1800 is noon. Ikitesurf gives a rough picture of things to come, but is not nearly as accurate. The 10 day MRF is the best long-range tool, but it is harder to read.

Yeah, Chad helped me figure out that the 12h is no longer supported but the others still work
