Hi
Hit Calhoun earlier this morning..good wind, pretty steady..(was out with a 12 nicely powered)
surface is quite patchy in the middle, snow has not bonded well with ice..
but there is a good area in the southwest corner
of the lake ( http://connect.garmin.com/activity/144069122 ) where some nice powder has accumulated and playing there was fun..
checked ice in a couple of places and it exceeded 4in..
have fun this afternoon

Re: Calhoun report
Thanks for the report. I've been thinking of getting out there soon since it's close for me. Took a while for Calhoun to freeze this year.

Re: Calhoun report
Calhoun is always the last city lake to freeze. Needless to say this has been a strange winter.

Re: Calhoun report
Does anybody know what % of the Calhoun's ice surface is currently covered? Is the SW corner still covered? Winds are looking good Friday afternoon and Saturday.
Re: Calhoun report
FYI - I was out on Calhoun yesterday. In the southeast corner, the snow has blown off to about 50% coverage. Doesn't look like the blast of snow that we got today will change the conditions that much. It might be ride-able in light winds, but the forecast I saw showed that it would be nukin on the tail end of the front tonight, so be careful if you go out there.
The east side of the lake looks like another story though. Good snow coverage throughout - it would work well if we ever get a SE wind (but I don't see one in the forecast). Until then, I'll be looking elsewhere for better local conditions.
