The wind wasn't doing much. Mike Winter was out on an 18 and was really only powered in the gusts.
It's probably worth going out if you just want to cruise, or have a 16-20m kite... The wind is supposed to diminish throughout the afternoon.
Have fun, whatever your plans today.

Saturday morning wind-report, just back from the Bear...

Had a session at mahtemidi about noon. I got there and there was just enough breeze to pump up, then it died, I was going to pack it up and it picked up so I had a fun cruise for about an hour or so. I forgot how nice it is kiting from that launch the wind comes down the hole lake and it makes for a nice steady breeze.
I will definitly be at the bear more since kite islands road is washed out, I was driving back yesterday and a snowmobile stopped on the road right in front of me, put the brakes on and was sliding, then he finally looked up and saw me at the last second and pulled to the side.

Looked like fun
Mike,
Saw you (I was on the 4m orange/black slingshot foil, and way underpowered except in the gusts)- it looked like too much fun! The wind did seem to die pretty badly, and I had to get going. Still, it was fun to watch- kites look magic when the sun is out. Your daughter looked like she was really getting the hang of it towards the end... and you were making it look far too easy.
I ended up bringing my kite on this weekend's family gathering in Black River Falls. My brother in law brought his stunt kites, so we flew for a bit, then switched off. Wow, talk about *sensitive*! The prism I got to fly barely needed any input at all, not at all like my foil. Still, it was a lot of fun, and I can see how it would help you work on your kite-handling skills in light winds. Roman loved the foil- we had perfect wind for it. Enough to get a pull, but not enough to be dangerous.
Cheers,
James
