Im going to be doing some work on my way down to Nebraska tommorow and was going to stop on one of these lakes, but have no idea which would be best and where to go. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

We will be kiting at Saylorville tomorrow in Des Moines. The water is still fairly warm you don't need anything more than a shorty. SE wind is perfect for this lake. Tomorrow and Friday are looking really good. Oak grove is the launch if you decide to detour through Des Moines.

They will be a few of us out tomorrow on the North side of Spirit Lake. Probably starting around noon.

Reed, hit the north side of Spirit Lake.

Okabena is a decent windsurfing spot but has about the worst kite launches possible. If you ever really make it deep into central Nebraska, you have to hit Calamus reservoir near Burwell, NE. It is way better than MacConaughy since the water level is always down in the fall regardless of the rainfall for the year. Being in the Sand Hills, it has huge white sand beaches and is where I (and any one could) learned to kite. But again it is a late season thing -some time around the first of August until hard water. Early on it is always high.
I agree with the Spirit lake suggestion. Good people up there.
