What can I do to Fix this harness?

Post by Lee_Uptown »

Hey All,

I bought this ION Apex harness, brand spanking new, in December 2010 (4 months old). This harness was in perfect shape (other than cosmetic peeling) during my entire trip in SPI. On my last day in SPI, the winds were ultra light and I ended having to walk back to shore. When I was packing up, i noticed there was a rip the size of my thumb on the bottom of my harness (see pic), Obviously, I was pretty unhappy... Well, I've contacted the company (turns out, it's a branch of North) and they said the they can't help me, the warranty does not cover breakage and mentioned it probably protected me from injuries! OK fine. The only possible cause of damage I can think of could be from my leash catching it or something when my chicken loop came off or some fish biting at me??? Nevertheless, non of my other harnesses have ever ripped even on the gustiest of days with my kite flagged out. Bad design and poor quality material I say. Since that company is offering nothing but consoling vocabulary, what can I do to fix this up well. Thoughts?

Thanks!

Lee

Lee, Aquaseal will take care of that easily. The stuff works miracles.

Really? I might give it a try after a few more suggestions here. I guess they should start selling their harnesses with a free tube of aqua seal. THanks Mike W.

U: U could take it to a shoemaker. If you dont' care about cosmetics, it could have a giant re-inforcement patch sewn over the weakened area. I'd also have the corresponding area on the opposite side re-inforced as well. Funny, I thought you un-hooked riders didn't really need harnesses. Dad

Ohh Dad, stop embarrassing me... Do you know of a good cobbler/ shoemaker around town who's talented and may have pretty fabric? Heck I'm gonna block off that worthless ION logo if I can. My as well pimp it out.

NOT SURE ABOUT THE YUPTOWN AREA. I've taken a few items to "Harold's" in Rice between 36 & 694. Don't think he has gold lame' though. Harness makers or sail lofts might also be an option.
