Gorge in spring?

Post by Mike G. »

Looks like I'll be near the Gorge for business week after next;

Anyone been there during the spring? Are the conditions typically good?

It can be good, but the wind is more iffy in spring. Also, the current is strong and cold from snow melt.

Thanks guys, that's helpful.

Nathan, I followed the link you posted and saw a story about a local kiter there who died kiting (Steve Johnson). Very sad...

Mike-
Check the forecast but I've had some good luck doing the Pacific in Oregon instead of the Gorge on similar trips . Manzanita Beach (13 miles South of Canon Beach) is great and draws other kiters. Big sandy beach, easy launch. It's cold and wavy but lots of wind and it can be epic.
Check Windfinder.
