Lake George; beautiful ride as usual today

Post by chrismic »

:) Getting slushy until the temps plummet, but access off of Lake George Drive on east side lets you park within 120 feet from the lakeshore. Still not sure why this is not treasured destination of the Twin Cities for the community. Knee deep water 80 feet from shore and a lake that is 3/4 mile wide and long seems like a lot better choice in the summer than many others that are a lot further away. Check out the Snow Pro Lake George Video (which, Congratulations, is a work of mastery) to see what a cool place this is.

Lake George is a good 4hr drive from MPLS. Pluss if you're up there near Leach, you'd probably get a cleaner wind.

Sorry, I was on the Lake George just 15 minutes North of Coon Rapids. I thought I recognized it from the video. Either way it is close to town and a shallow sandy lake. Thanks.

Glad you had fun Chris!

Here is a little more info about the lake and how to get there:

Here are a couple of pictures from the beach at NNW corner...http://www.lakawa.com/phpBB/lakawaphoto/?show=108

The lake works well from E, S and W winds in summer and in winter drive to the middle of the lake and you can kite all of the norths too.
My favorites are SW and W and when the winds blow from these directions there is a small beach area next to the boat launch in the NE corner to pump your kite. Very shallow, but in summer a lot of weeds. Once you pass the weeds in the shallow aerea, your are fine.

I hope this info works for you guys and I hope to see more people there.

Thanks Maximilliano,

Let me know the next time you go, I may be able to break away, although you are in a completely different class than I. By the way, one of my favorite ski destinations is Barraloche in Patagonia.

Let's get together soon... By the way for me is not about kiting experience, it's about sharing and having fun on a windy day.

Bariloche in Argentina is beautiful and I think next time you go there you should bring the kites!

This one is from Caviahue, just 1 hour from Bariloche into Los Andes mountains... I think this spot is amazing!!! I have been to bariloche, but never here...
