Any of the Rochester riders interested in an outing on Sunday or Monday? I don't have much experience with knowing about ice safety, and have read some other postings about machinery going through the ice at Minnetonka the last couple of days. However a fisherman told me the ice at Kalmar reservoir was 3 feet thick last weekend, so I can't imagine that the warm weather has thinned it out too much.
Does anyone know if Lake Pepin is safe right now, at Lake City? If the ice is sound, it could be nice there on Monday - hopefully the roads will be clear by then.

Re: Rochester Sunday or Monday, or Lake Pepin?
David,
Wish I could join you...I'm in Park City, Utah for the weekend so won't make it...however, the ice on Kalmar should be fine....we needed some new snow, so glad to hear we got some!

"Lake" Pepin is a wide spot in the river - flowing water. Ice safety is an entirely different issue there. Have a good ride where ever you end up.

Nice to know there are some Rochester riders around. I missed the Sunday/Monday talk but am staying in the area off and on and would love to know where people find space to ride in one of the two counties in MN without a natural lake.
New to the forum and relatively new to riding. Hoping the wind is good next week to get out - would love to hear if others are heading out in the area so I don't have to make the drive up north. Feel free to PM me.

Ben, the Kalmar reservoir on the west side of town (19th St, a mile or so west of Cinemagic theaters) is the only place I know of in Rochester. Hope to see you there the next time the wind blows.

David and Ben - Sorry I didn't catch this until now...just got back from Kalmar - sweet conditions, fast snow, good soft cover and surprisingly enough wind today (SW ~10mph) for a nice ride on a 14M Slingshot Rally & snowboard. Warm temps this week might take out the field snow, but the lake has a bit deeper cover.
Below is my track from today, the 100 acre site has been a great playground this winter!

I should have gone out! Didn't seem like enough wind, so I went to Essex park with my skinny skis
Re: Rochester Sunday or Monday, or Lake Pepin?
Heading to the reservoir right now 2:30. N15...see how it goes.
Re: Rochester Sunday or Monday, or Lake Pepin?
Pete, how were the conditions on Friday- is there still enough snow? How about the reservoir itself - still enough ice?
Re: Rochester Sunday or Monday, or Lake Pepin?
3pm; just going down to Kalmar now to see how it is
Re: Rochester Sunday or Monday, or Lake Pepin?
It's still fun. Not sure of the ice depth.
