Mayhem 14 question))
Hello, it's a pretty good wind today and i just received that kite.. Sure i couldn't stay at home so i went to 109th fields. I was there on Tuesday and it was awesome. It doesn't look so good now though, but i was very exited to try that kite. I got to the fields at 5pm and left it at 6.30... there was a storm siren somewhere around 6 o'clock) and it needs to be said that it scared me a little bit))) After that storm siren i couldn't feel the kite so well. It was flagging with both sides a lot and for a moment even reminded me of a bat) So my question is if it's normal for a 14 meter kite to react like that in such a gusty winds (i believe that it showed here almost up to 30knts), or that is the kite itself??
Re: Mayhem 14 question))
CHANCES ARE THAT you had reached the maximum limit of your kite, during the gusts anyway. It is nice that the modern designs, with all their depower, allow you sheet in to the point where the kite is still controllable, but the danger may lie in a false sense of security, leading to flying too big of a kite in too much wind. I believe the phenomenum you experienced is often referred to as "jellyfishing" and is a telltale sign that you should rig smaller. Kudos to you for still going out, despite the crappy conditions. Be careful out there.

I agree with Jim. 30knots, 14M? Holy Shit!
Yours is a Mayhem, not a Mayhem-X... right? I have flown a 2008 Caution 18M Mayhem now two seasons. When I've been on it in winds above the reasonable range, it doesn't just get crazy and evil like some kites I've had, instead it gets more C shaped and dumps the excess - which has it's benefits. It always stays manageable. For a huge kite I'm very pleased with how quick it turns.
You really need to have the LE bladder pumped up well to get full performance out of the kite. 6 pounds is no good. 7.5 pounds seems like the sweet spot. For the struts... not a big deal, I seal mine off at 5 pounds.

Re: Mayhem 14 question))
It didn't blow constantly for 30 knots. It was more about 12-15. The forecast on lacawa was saying gusts could get up to 30something... I wasn't overpowered because that the wind was coming from west and there are buildings from west side + the field itself is narrow and long) I guess if it was North wind I would have troubles.. Yeah, you right. It's just mayhem without X)) I found that 14 and bought it right away) is your 14 X or mayhem as well? I hope we get lot's of snow tomorrow so I will go and try it on Sunday again. I posted my first message because during the whole winter I have never seen kite doing such a strange thing)) it kind of surprised me..
2Barry P)) BTW is it just my myhem or all of them like that... I was trying to relaunch it with pulling fast both of rear lines back and then letting one go but it didn't make that trick.... I was able to do it on my other kites... ??? Any comments on that?

Re: Mayhem 14 question))
My 18M is a Mayhem. I have some Mayhem-X kites too.
Launch: I had a Crossbow that would Reverse Launch (pull the two back lines), but none of my other non-foil kites have been able to do this.
Give me a call to talk about specifics if you like: 763-232-2726.
