Notice of Race and Freeride! IceFest Snowkiting Jan 7th-9th

Post by Bryce »

Hello All!
I've been wanted to host an event up in my neck of the woods for awhile and Breezy Point is having Ice Fest... So that seemed like the perfect opportunity!

Ice Fest Snowkiting is going to be held at Breezy Point, MN on Pelican Lake in cooperation with the Breezy Point Ice Fest Event. http://www.breezypointresort.com/recrea ... efest.html. There will be lots of other activities for your significant other / kids so everyone will be entertained.

Cost - $15 if you preregister by Jan 5th and $25 to register on Friday or Sat. I am going to try and get a donate button setup similar to what Mike had for the snowkite crossing, Until then email me at bryce at explorethewind.com with your name and if your planning on skiing or snowboarding

The price is only help defray the cost of the fleet8's kiting insurance. We need insurance to have these events and Mike Fox at Fleet8 has done a great job setting that up!

Itinerary
Friday
All Day - Free Ride on Pelican
7:00pm-9:00pm - Registration at Billy's (map below)

Sat
All Day - Free Ride
9:30am - Racer's Meeting / Registration on Pelican by the playground.

Sun
All Day - Free Ride
9:30am - Racer's Meeting / Registration if no race the previous day
5pm - Awards/Door Prizes (if I can get some door prizes) at Billy's

The plan for the race is to have a starting point somewhere around the Registration Area and do a race around gooseberry island (don't kite too close behind the trees... the wind will drop!).

For the Freeride, I'm going to plan on getting a slider or two out there as well as some kickers. If anyone wants to come up and help let me know!

Here is a map of the going-ons:

///////////UPDATE///////////

To Register: Shoot me email at bryce at explorethewind.com with your name, email, and if you use ski or snowboard.

Or If you post on this thread and let me know your coming (with your real name because I can't always tell who is who on here!). I can get the other information when you register onsite.

To Pay: I'm not going to do the paypal thing... so just find me at billy's on friday or on the lake on sat morning and pay me then.

Do it by wed for the cheaper price! It will help me judge how many people are going to show up!

NOTICED THAT THEY ARE TO FEATURE, "TAMI & THE BACHELOR" FOR THE EVENING ENTERTAINMENT. I think a windy forecast & Tami might be enough of an enticement. We are way overdue for some decent wind. Please make it so!

I'm in! sounds like a blast. I know I've met some of the kiters who post here, but still fairly new to the Minnesota kite scene. I'll probably be going up solo, so if anyone wants to share lodging or ride share let me know. George. email is glemson32@gmail.com

Couple people asked about places to stay...

Breezy Point Resort is right there and a lot of places are on the water... but a little more expenive.

Leisure Suites of Breezy Point are the other one in the area (they might have waterslide access....)

Pelican Lake Motel and Commander Motel are probably the cheapest.

Or If there is a crew interested in winter camping. I'll probably be down for that! Make a big bonefire on the ice or something.

Just wanted to get this back up to the top. This will be a great event with some great new snow cover. Come on up and have fun on Pelican Lake this weekend.

Would the race be rescheduled if winds on Sunday aren't looking too good?

Dave,
I'm going to try and run the race on Sat if there is wind... and Sunday is the backup day. I won't be able to reschedule the race if the forecast looks poor (which it doesn't look too bad 5-6 days out) because I am organizing this with the Breezy Point ice fest (so there is lots of stuff for the non kiters to do).

It looks like over 20 people are already signed up! And the snow is excellent up here!

So, Im thinking of heading up Friday morning. I would like to get there as early as possible to help build some kickers. Wind so far is looking prime on Friday. How many of you are thinking of heading out friday? It'd be nice to get some wind Saturday for that race. :D
