Last night I went fishing on Wayzata bay I walked out about half way to kite island I had about 5 good inches of ice with 5 more on top of that was white. 10 inches total. Now the wierd part there was maybe 1 inch of snow. At the beach I walked thru about 16 inches of snow. Near shore I did break thru into some slush and after that it was easy walking.
Best part was 7 walleyes total 3 came home with me for dinner.

Nice! How deep were you fishing?
Re: Wayzata Bay ice
We iceboated Minnetonka today;
Gideon's, Echo, down along Greenwood and down past big island is pretty rough but sailable. Main lake is much smoother snow ice with 1"-2" light snow with the exception of a few large drifts covering 4" of slush.(wow can that stop ya quick!)
No idea on ice thickness other than it proved to be enough to hold up a Skeeter and a Nite everywhere we went.

Now I know why you're called the Iceman-you go ice fishing! You said you got 5 inches of good ice- sounds like a sucessful outing. What do you do with the bad ice? Is there a responsible way to return it back into the hole? You don't just leave it laying on the surface so some unsuspecting kiteboarder can run into it? I am a little jealous of those tasty fish you caught! Thanks for the report. And once again, we have an iceboater who didn't check the ice thickness before going out. Maybe our brains freeze when we go outside this time of year and it affects the signals/thoughts that are supposed to be triggered in our brain. Maybe quite similar to what the wind does to my brain, it's superman's cryptonite. Maybe I should be poking holes in the ice instead of poking fun at you guys; nope, I just looked in the freezer and we have plenty of ice. Now where's that wind?
