Snowkite get together or gathering

Anyone hear of anything going on up at Milly this year 2011 like in Feb for a gathering? If not how about 2-19 and 2-20 for a gathering, I thought I would put it out there early, Malmo, Reddy or Garrison depending on the wind direction, who's in?

My understanding is the Crossing will be held March 4-6th so this would be a good tune up.

Great idea Scott. Maybe we grab two weekends so we have one as a fallback in case conditions don't warrant riding. The Gathering has been a very successful summer format. I applaud your initiative to bring one to our winter season.

Might be fun to see what a small cluster of ice houses cost to rent for the weekend. We could make it Snowkite Gathering Central.

I like the flexibility of the location. We can drive to the middle of the lake if we need to.

Man thats even a better idea Tighe on getting a cluster of ice houses to rent out in the lake, should be wind any direction out a ways from shore. Cool lets keep the idea fresh in another two months and I think we should go for it, worse that could happen we hang out and tip some cold ones chat!

Looked into the ice house rental..wow...they're not cheap. Still might be fun to have a gathering out on the middle of the lake, or at least few miles off shore. Jason's Rally was out there a ways and that was pretty cool. There have been a few sessions the day before or the day after the Crossing events that were out on the ice aways. Super clean, smooth wind. A bit surreal with the land barely in sight as thin line along the horizon. Maybe we name it The Swarm.

Thanks for looking into these Tighe, the last time I stayed in one about 8 years ago they had bunks for 4 to six people so maybe they would not be to expensive if everyone shared the cost? I think we can all work something out to get out on the lake for a day or two, or maybe ask the garrison in what type of deal they would give us if we rented the whole place out for a Friday and Saturday, I could definately call them and ask if that would work or the casino is usually $100.00 cheaper than the Garrison in? There are a lot of options I think, we just need to explore them all.

I KNOW A DUDE, with a giant RV. Maybe we could put some snow chains on the back, skis on the front, and drive that sucka out to the middle of Milly. I think there'd be plenty of room for everybody!

Hey this isn't Ice Road Truckers Jim, I wouldn't feel comfortable putting 45,000 lbs on the ice, it would havet o be pretty thick.

We winter camped at last year's crossing and had a ton of fun with it.

We'd be down for winter camping too. Last year was a blast. It was a winter kite shanty town, with martinis thanks to John.

Thanks for bumping this up. All gatherings are for everyone. There are probably quite a few local instructors attending that you could hook up with if you want some instruction. also...Everyone loves talking kites so if riders are hanging, feel free to fire any questions you have.

Gatherings are a great place to learn from others.

O.K. lets do the informal gathering 2-11 through 2-13 and the no wind make up date would be 2-18 through the 2-20th at Millacs Lake right in front of Garrison and the Blue Goose. It's going to be a make your own lodging arrangements, hotel, casino or tent it what ever you would like. bring your own grub and drink, I'll be bringing my grill for brats and burgers, just bring what you want to cook and I'll let you use it when I'm done. Should be a fun time, I'll watch the forecast and make a call around 2-4 according to the 10 day if it will be 2-11 or 2-18, hope alot of people can make it, everyone is welcome, lets all get out and have some fun and do some riding!!!!!!
