Wacconia 10-20 after work???

Post by nowak046 »

Hello everyone, its getting cold but there looks like we might still be getting some good wind coming in this Wednesday. Would anyone be up for ditching out of work early and kiting around 2 or 3pm???

Planning on Washington - rode there Saturday on the same wind direction - very nice flats behind the cat tails and nice to know that you can walk back from the shorline in case your kite looses air after a crash and you have to walk a mile back while Jerry waves and takes pictures off his gopro of you dragging your kite as Jonathon is throwing big 720's. OKAY so they got more ride time than me last Saturday but I got more water arobics in on my walk back!

blown eardrum

Post by scottchapman »

:) Glad I threw in the windsurfer at the last minute. Kited first on the 7 meter for a while and then switched to windsurfing for the last session in the 40 MPH gusts around 4 pm...

FYI if you have a helmet put back in your ear flaps...and make sure you launch your kite away from shore and then be standing at least 1.5 line lengths away from shore.

:?
My bridle caught on the tip of my kite on launching yesterday. I was lofted about 10-15 feet in the air and landed on my left ear in about 2 feet of water. I think I hit the bottom with my ear and helmet. blew out my eardrum in the process. Done on the water for a few weeks until it heals...:( I think the ear flap would have prevented the water push into my ear.

It could have been a lot worse. My kite landed a few feet from shore and I landed about 20 feet from land...
It happened really fast... I let go of the bar a few feet from landing.... :(

Scott,
What a bummer! It was pretty nasty out there - combat kiting, for sure.

I'm really sorry to hear about the eardrum - I hope you have a speedy recovery!

Wunderground was saying gusts of 43 mph in Hutch - I can't help wondering if it was a little bigger on the Wac.

Had a great little session on WBL last night after work.

Who'd a thought you could ride October20th, no booties, no gloves, just a wetsuit, with the sunset reaching across the waters in one direction and a piercing nearly full moon going back the otherway. What a gift this year has been, especially for those of us who can't get out as much during the week. Evening sessions and weekend after weekend of wind...feed the soul. Ah yes...what a great thing...this wind riding.

glad you're ok Scott. Sounds quite scary.
