Hi All,
I read through the destination locations on Lakawa and it appears that both South Padre and Corpus are solid kite destinations. Right now I'm planning Corpus, but the flight situation isn't so hot into that location ($$$). However, wanted to open up the question to the forum (knowing that many of you have hit multiple destinations). Any particular location that you would recommend for the late Oct timeframe to have strong odds of catching some solid wind? Considering: South Padre, Corpus, Cancun (or other Mexico destinations), Dominican Republic. Thanks in advance for the suggestion(s)!

end of october is prime cape hatteras. fly into orf (norfolk) and it is about two and a half to the outer banks. southwest fly into norfolk (free baggage) for around 129 one way. the banks has killer beach break waves on one side and shin to waist deep flat water on the sound side that goes to the mainland.
you can stay at a hotel if you like but we always check out the off season prices for the vacation homes that line the island. check out outer beaches realty for examples, i think surf or sound realty is another one but there are many on the banks) it goes in the order of $$$$ to $; ocean front, sound front, then ocean side, and finally sound side, but a sound front with kite or polehuggin friendly beach is dirt cheap end of oct. we usually rent a five bedroom, with hottub and sand beach for around 1200-1300 a week, (which is dirt when you would pay 60+ per nite per person at a hotel/motel) or half of that for no direct water access.
end of oct. into sept is usually still rash guard or shorty season as well. i usually head out two to three times a year, wouldn't want to weatherman the wind on you but we usually can count on 5 out of 7 days of rideable wind, last fall was 7 out of 7 on no kite larger than a 10.
my two cents.

I'VE BEEN VISITING THE TEXAS GULF COAST FOR YEARS. Both Sun Country & Southwest Airlines fly into South Padre for very reasonable rates. It might be a less pricey option than Corpus, especially for a short trip.

Yup the outer banks seems like the place for wind in October. The Madison crew (kiteriders) always seem to go there and Minnesota crew always seems to head to Padre. If your strictly basing the trip on wind OBX takes it, course the warmth will be in Texas

If anyone is interested in going to Hatteras Oct 9-16, I am in the middle of figuring out travel logistics. I am headed out with some chicago kiters and we are staying in a house that sleeps 7+ people. If there is interest I would drive from Madison with room for 3 others, otherwise I might fly due to time constraints. It might be a little short notice but if you want to take a few days off and go on a kite adventure let me know. boyl0101@gmail.com

Just FYI - Bob Cook and Madison trip runs to Cape Hatteras from Oct 9th – 22nd. His house and trip booked up pretty fast. Do you have any more details on your trip from price point or open beds ?
