Kite rodeo is Feb 20-22. http://www.southpadreislandkiteboarding ... ite04.html

Worth the trip, I know last year they had an "amateur" division in the competition. Tons of demos. Wish i could take the time off from school to go.

What about a place to stay

Does anyone have an inexpensive place to stay in Padre?

Hotels are cheap right now (all things relative). ~$40 a night on the island! The place is dead until spring break, not much nightlife, just kiting, shrimp and beer.

If you have more than 3 people I'd recommend you check in to a Condo down there...Denis and I did the Days Inn when we were there (which was fine), but then met up with some people that were able to get a condo, since it was off season, that sleeps 6 for something like $80.00 a night.

Another good place, as was recommended to us by some other kiteboarders, is the South Padre Hotel. They apparently have decks and showers that will let you wash the salt off of your gear.
