Kiteboarding shop?

Post by NewEthan »

Ok I have looked all over the internet and the only kitesurfing/kiteboarding store is in Minneapolis(scuba center). There is one more called Extreme action sports ( http://www.kite-shops.com/kitestores/Mi ... re-95.html ), but as far as I can tell they are closed, none of the numbers work. Can some one help me find a kiteboarding store that is open and have freaking replacement parts and some one that I can actually talk to?

I'm not sure what you're looking for, but Larry is the one to talk to at Scuba Center. The only other game in town I know of is Midwest Mountaineering.

Yeah both Scuba Center and Midwest Mountaineering are committed to the riding community. Shoot Peter Noreen an email down at Midwest and if he doesn't have what you're looking for he can help you get it.

I just posted a question about bar compatibility. 2007 Cabrinha crossbow kite that I am wondering if my 2008 liquid force bar will work? I know that the Cabrinha bar is a "2 to one" system and the liquid force bar is a "one to one" system. Given the face that the Cabrinha bar can be changed to a one to one system I would guess that it would work.

Also I need the lines that attach to the kite called a Flying Line Connector Set. That can be bought from Cabrinha web site for 12.00, but the thing is I also need a new de-power main line (52.00) and a new Centerline Adjustment Strap(64.00). Wow so I'm sitting at 128.00 to get a used bar to the point that I think it is safe to use. Granted that I got a killer deal on the kite and bar!! I still would like things to work properly before I use them or...... just use my other bar that works great while I slowly buy the parts.

yep...

I think you'll be best off if you can keep your Crossbow in a 2-1 configuration. (correct me if I'm wrong Rob). I've tried the SS Turbos, which are similar, in a 1:1 configuration and find that you loose a lot of range and ability to handle gusts. I would try and track down a bar that's designed for a 2:1 bow kite. Many of the Cabrinha's had them (not sure if any still do), Slingshot Turbo Series, and others should work.

Unfortunately used bars and or the components you're looking for probably aren't going to be had at the local shop. Just not enough demand for them to keep them in stock.

I'd suggest ikitesurf.com classifieds, call Cabrinha, call Slingshot, and or other brands that have 2:1 kites. Many times they'll have used gear that came back from riders.

When you call Cabrinha, ask them about preferred line lengths and at what setting should the lines be equal. i.e. Chicken loop against bar full power on adjustment strap, or what.

Good luck. Hope that helps

one more thing. In the Knowledge section of this website there are Advisors listed that know the product of the brands they represent. Most would love to help you figure out any issue you are having with your gear. Check it out.

Thank you for your post. Tomorrow I sill will be stopping by both shops to anyways to check out the selection and see if I can suck up some knowledge.I have no doubt that I am being overcautious when talking about this bar. I am sure that in its current state that it will work fine if I buy the line connectors.
If you are wondering the 2010 Cabrinha kites have all switched to a one to one control system... I think.

What size is your crossbow?

I think it wouldn't fly too well in a 1:1 configuration. They changed a bunch of things on the newer kites so it will work better on a 1:1. I used to fly crossbows (I still use the 16m one from time to time in light wind). But I might have a bar that I could sell you.. .I'll have to check and see what I have in the garage.

Good question, I tried the 2008 CB in the 1-1 setting and didnt care for it. I assume the 2007 would feel the same with limited depower. Another option is to expand your quiver and purchase another crossbow(with bar) in the same year or 2008 that is a size up or down from what your currently flying so you can use the one bar with both kites. I would think you could find a 2007/2008 CB on ebay in the 400-500 range with bar. Another good resource is in Madison - Bob Cook with kiteriders has allot of experience with Cabrinha through the years and may have a bar that you are looking for.
Good luck
