A kind of a noob here. The bottom part of my sail gets all wrinkly after I finish rigging my 6.5 Sailworks Retro. Wrinkling seems uneffected by the amount of tension.
6.5 isn't a small sail, but when rigged it's so flat that it traps very little air! Just frustrating. Obvisously, I'm doing something wrong!
From what I can see in your picture and the flat sail you describe, I would bet your total length of mast and extension are not long enough. Do you have the right length mast as recommended for the sail? Look on the sail for recommended mast and luff length. The total length of your mast and how far out you adjust the extension need to be at least as long as the recommended luff. I usually started 5 cm longer than recommended. Then down haul the sail to the bottom and see how the sail looks. You may need to re-adjust the extension shorter or longer until you figure out how to get good shape in the sail with no bottom wrinkles and without the base sticking out too far. I usually down haul my sail until it is loose in the leech between the top two sets of battens. Hope that helps.
I have several Retro Sails. If you want to call me I'll try and help you over the phone. At very least maybe we can narrow down what the problem is.

Thanks,
I'll adjust it some more per your recommendations.
