Jibe??

Post by NJB »

Anybody got any tips on jibing a strapless directional?

What foot do I move first (back to front or front to back)?

How far into the transition do you start the jibe?

Keep the kite powered or depower when jibing?

Thanks, in advance, for any help!!!

I have seen two approaches: come around and go toe-side, then sort of quick spin. Or, mid way through your turn, move your back foot, pigeon toed to the other side of the board. As you complete the turn, slide the other foot across between your new front foot and the tail of the board. Try Kiteforum, or the Best website for some instructional videos.

If you've windsurfed, the same sort of rules applies - people use both approaches depending on the conditions.

The easiest for me seems to be to make your turn to toeside, then twist your FRONT foot around and sort of to the center part of the board while keeping the pressure on with your back foot. the nice thing about the toeside method is that you can do it at speed while in waves and either cut back (no foot change), ride it out, or unweight when you have smoother water and switch.
