Re: Malmo Cleanup
I like the spirit. I'd be willing to take a weekend afternoon or some evening and pitch in. If we had a few of us probably wouldn't take long.
Might let the Park Department know, if for no other reason than to show our support of the park: White Bear Lake Kiteboarders, or Lakawa Kiteboarders or Lakawa (includes windsurfers) will be doing a beach clean up on xxxx, 2010. Doesn't matter too much what you call it but might to be good to suggest some organization.
Unfortunately I'm heading to Padre on Friday for 10 days. Might be able to do something M-W evening this week or after the 19th.

Re: Malmo Cleanup
I Would love to head up there since I've not been near any kite-able area for MONTHS! Count me in!
Re: Malmo Cleanup
Let me see (thinking) I work 6 days a week with only Sundays off.
Count me in I am there When can we start. This a huge problem with a lot of lakes. Last year when I went to Reddy if the wind dies the garbage bag came out. Its a long drive to do nothing might as well do something.

That's the spirit Iceman! If more people would bring bags, a rake, and a shovel, (optional) these sites would stay mint all the time with very little effort. The brownie points we build up with the county certainly wont hurt us either.

Re: Malmo Cleanup
I think this is a great idea too. I am pretty involved in the climbing community and we have cleanups of all the major crags in the area (http://mnclimbing.org/index.php?option= ... &Itemid=58). Giving back is huge and the land managers do take notice. This all started by just a few people getting together and picking up trash. This could be done at all our regular launches - Ramsey, Waconia, Canon, etc… Being good users just makes sense.
Schedule a time and ask folks to show up - not as many as you would like will show up, but enough will.

I have a few weekends open and would definately help if I can, just post a date and see what happens, bring your kite gear too it will more than likely be windy.
Re: Malmo Cleanup
i think that we should figure out which spots need work and just organize cleanup/get togethers and ride and clean the beach.

Re: Malmo Cleanup
Wow just read through these and for some reason I thought you originally said Ramsey. Oops my bad.
All lakes could use a little help. Since organizing anything with this crew can be challenging, how about each of us consider throwing a garbage bag or two into the trunk of their car, and/or a rake? Then when we show up to ride, we take a few minutes before, after or between sessions and spend a few minutes giving back.
I'm heading to Mille this weekend. I'll throw some bags in the car and do what I can.
If people want to make a party out of it, I'm game as well, just thought this might be easier.

Ha, Tighe the subject even said Malmo cleanup
Seriously both areas always seem to have plenty stuff that shouldn't be there and I totaly agree just hauling a bit of it home each time we ride is the best idea. However, If we have orginized cleanups and tell the land managers about it, they see groups of people taking care of the places they love, it goes a long ways to keep access. Thats really the only reason to try and organize cleanups - oh and the party afterward.
Going to try and make it this weekend, but have a bit of a torn hamstring so we'll see.
