Post by scottman »

Does anyone know what the conditions on either lake are, I'm thinking about taking a session?

Waconia was still Ice covered on Saturday. I was out there shooting a wedding and made a little drive around the lake to check it out.

WBL - close but not yet. Maybe tomorrow?

I'm packing my stuff in the hopes it breaks up tomorrow!

Hey Scott, just drove by the Wac tonight, and it is still pretty thick. I don't think it will be moving tomorrow, even with the high winds and temperatures in the forecast. I'd bet it will be out by the weekend however. It's coming soon.

Drove by Ramsey on the way in this morning and it's looking good. There is one piece of ice north of the rock pile that takes up about half that part of the lake. You could easily kite all the way across the lake north of the rockpile. There was an opening at least 75 yards wide at the narrowest all the way accross. I am guessing by this afternoon there will be plenty of room to kite.

Right now the rock pile is keeping the main ice pack to the south out of this area. The only thing that might happen is if some of that breaks loose and somehow makes its way around the rocks. Seems unlikely tho because the reef goes almost all the way accross the lake with the water this low.

WBL Ramsey was still iced in around 1pm today; you can't reach the band of open water from the beach.

But the waves were lapping pretty good against the ice (mostly floating slush) , so it won't be long.

Wed morn update...there is some ice in Mahtomedi bay pushed to the north along peninsula. There is ice in the Yacht club bay pushing up on the reef of north bay. North of the reef is water except for some crushed ice awash on the north shoreline by Rutherford. I think todays heat should wipe er out. Thurs could be good at Ramsey. Water levels still are low...

Waconia 2/3 open as of noon today. East launch clear almost out to the island. Should be completely open Saturday at this rate.

Got a short session on Tonka (Carman Bay) today, until the wind shut down. Good to be back on the water. Everything should open up tomorrow with the rain.
