Brake lines and Saftey not not depowering enough.

Post by patk373 »

Hi,

So I have a 2004 ozone frenzy 12m, with an 07 bar. When I pull the breaklines or engage the saftey the kite does not depower enough to succure it to a board or to a post. This makes paking up and launching extremely difficult. (Also dangerous) The kite flys great otherwise.

Is there anything I can do to solve this by adjusting the lines. Could this also have something to do with the newer bar?

Thanks! Pat

Between the 04 and 07 major changes were made in the design of the brake bridle, the lines along the bottom of the kite canopy.
Obviously the brake when pulled is not putting enough tension on the brake bridle.
When leashed to the bridle if you release the chicken loop and let the leash pull the brake lines rather than manually pulling the brake I'm pretty sure the kite will fall out of the sky. Basically it'll put more tension on the brake lines than you can manually.
Try it and let us know what happen.
As far as parking the kite, attach the leash and not the brake line to your ice screw and that'll probably help too.

Thankyou,

yeah I have tried pulling the breakline even past the bar, kite falls out of the sky but still pulls to hard to be able to secure it to something other that is not really fixed.

I had an '06 Frenzy that behaved similarly, it still had a lot of power when only holding the handbrake.I think that is just how the kite worked to be honest, I don't think there is anything that can be done to the lines or bar that will make much of a difference. The best way I found to park the kite was to use an ice screw and 'biner and clip into the relaunch loops on the back lines. You can also slip the loops over the bar ends if your just sitting down for a break.

They made some major improvements to the depower when they went to the FX models.

So the issues the less travel on the newer bar back lines compared to the bridle. If you leash to the brake and get in the habit of unhooking from the chicken loop and letting it go the leash will bring the kite out of the sky everytime....you'll be putting more tension on the back lines.

My 06 10M Frenzy does the same thing. It gets even worse in higher wind. I've asked this question for years on a few forums...no one has any info to offer. Just have to deal with this issue and be ready for it when the wind picks up beyond your riding comfort.
