Lake Calhoun tonight, Night ride anyone?

Post by scottman »

I'm thinking of doing some night riding tonight at Calhoun, does anyone have an update on Calhoun for conditions?

I'm considering the night ride as well, though I probably can't make it there until 6:30 or later. It depends on how busy I am at work and how bad the roads are this evening.

I don't know about conditions at Calhoun, but I was on Waconia yesterday and conditions there were just great. There was almost no exposed ice, and the snow was packed nicely.

I'll definitely be out there tonight. I think I'll make it to the lake around 9pm. I drove by this morning and the entire lake was covered with snow. I think the little flakes that started last night will be a good base for the fluffy stuff that has been falling all day.

I saw a few kites on the north side yesterday before the game.

See ya out there!

It's going to depend on the raod conditions if I can get out there tonight or if I want to brave the drive?

I'm thinking about it. The last time I kited Calhoun in a snowstorm it was whiteout conditions with wind gusts to about 30. I think it'll be a little mellower tonight.

Calhoun is prrrrrrrrfect right now.

I was out Friday and Saturday and the west side was nice and soft. I'm sure with an extra 4"+ it'll be real nice. Watch out for the icefisherman obstacles about mid-way up the west side - I don't know if there were marking their sweet spot for their fish-house or what, but there are wooden stakes sticking up out about 2' out of the ice at two spots. It should be visible during the day, but know where they are before you crash your kite or yourself into them.
