lakes and fields shot!!!

Post by dave12341234 »

Well, went out to the lake in my area this morning, setup with a good westerly wind, kite gets up and I face plant. There was 6 inches of really dense snow on top of 3 inches of nasty slush, and below the slush was an inch of water! Packed up and went to the fields. Get to the fields, take a step and sink in up to my thighs!

I hope theres hope somewhere!

with the cold temps coming tommorow thru the rest of the week everything should refreeze and be rideable again.

I don't think they got as much rain on top of the hill in duluth. I went for a drive on saturday, thinking the roads would be ok since it was just raining... as soon as I got to the top of the hill on 53 it was a whiteout.
I havn't been over to rice yet but I'm guessing that it didn't get completely shushed out!

Anyone know anything about Calhoun? I heard it was now all ice but have not been out on it to see whether it's all really solid

Tonka is Toast. There probably are spots where the snow has remained or some has drifted in, but there are large areas of chunky ice now. I'm sure some rideable areas exist on Tonka but every bay will be different. My bay (Carman) is crap. We need another dump now.

I was out on whitebear this afternoon The wind was beautiful but my body couldn't take the pounding any longer I was only out there like 2 hrs tops. usually if there's wind I wont quit till the wind dose. I know it will never happen but people should quit driving cars when it gets all slushy like this then things wouldn't be so bad but there are some really deep ruts by Mahtomedi caught a ski and abruptly stopped. My kite had other ideas and I quickly pulled safety leash(1st time I had to do this) and it worked. I was only a couple feet off the ice when gravity returned me to the other rut right in 2 feet of slush. It was wet. Praying for snow. Later Mark L

When you talk about "Rice" is that Wild Rice Lake just north of the Duluth airport?

Thanks. Bill

Ha, I did the same thing, it was way too cold today! Im trying to find an open day on my schedule to get out on Chequamagon Bay in Ashland or possibly the bayfield area. I know a guy out there that needs some company, he's kiting alone, and I wouldnt mind making a 2-day trip, or possibly just a long day. Any takers?
