Northwest/Delta Foil Kite Carry On

Post by Matixsnow »

Anyone have any experiences with a foil kite as a carry on with Northwest or Delta? I am going to Utah and have never brought a foil kite as a carry on.

You'll probably get "extra screening" through security. Anytime I've brought a parachute on as carry on, they been a little jumpy. A foil kite will look similar enough that some (most) TSA won't know what the hell the difference is between the two.

No problems with the kite, but the bar is iffy. Some people think it makes a good bludgeoning tool.

I've flown with kites and bars as carry-on many times. There's no metal, so the screeners let it through. But they've sometime asked what the bars were for.

A gate-check woman got a lttle skeptical with me last year on the way to Utah. My foil kite bag has a blank spot, Pilot:........ where I had markered in my name. They did confiscate my batman suit, however.

I was able to carry on both my 12m and 7.5m kite with no problems. I packed my bars into my checked luggage.

I've flown a few times with my foils but always checked them as baggage. I've put them in a seperate duffle bag with my ski boots, helmet, and clothing. The weight has always been right at the limit but not a problem.
Good luck
