I was hoping someone might have some input about a Best Yarga 2008. I'm thinking about purchasing a 9m and 13m, but wanted to get some input before doing so.
First of all I would like to start by describing my ability level. I've probably been out about 15 times over the past couple years. I have good kite control for a beginner, and don't have any problems staying up wind on the snow using a board or ski. I am not that great on the water and struggle to stay upwind. I haven't perfected the drift launch, but I have been able to make it happen a few times. I recently had a 12m Cabrinha Crossbow 06 and a 2007 8m Latitude Glider (never saw anyone in Minnesota flying this kite but me).
I'm looking for a new kite because my stuff was stolen. That's a story in itself. So anyway, I'm wondering if I could go from a bow style kite to a C style kite. I've read that the Yarga is more of a freestyle kite because it's a C kite. Does anyone have any advice or input regarding my situation? Would it be alright to make the transition from bow to C kite? Do you think I would be in danger because the Yarga doesn't have the depower a bow kite would? The Yarga can be a 5 line or 4 line kite. I intend to use it as a 4 line kite! How well does this kite launch from the water?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Josh

Firstly kites are to a degree taste.....
I've not heard anything positive or negative about the Yarga. I'm assuming you've found a really good deal on them somewhere?.
The one concern I would have is you have limited experience so it might not be a good idea going to a kite design where a lot of the depower comes from your board edging ability.
I would suggest a regular bow or hybrid design, these designs have more depower which makes alround riding just easier. The other advantage is you'll avoid the tug of war associated with C kites in our local gusty winds. I have not ridden a Yarga so it may have more depower than I realize in which case disregard what I'm saying. The only person I know whos used the Yarga is Kurt and he's a very good rider, Kurt any suggestions?.
I'd suggest a Waroo if you want Best, Rev Slingshot, Lite or Sport Ozone, Switchblade cabrinha the list goes on and on.
I have a couple of very nice Ozone Sports that were new last spring, I have to sell them to make way for next years models if you're interested. My e mails on the post side bar.
I know Midwest, Scuba Center and Velocity Kiting have kites in stock, it's a good idea to support your local stores if you can, a) it helps them stay in business so we have kite stores in the area b) if you have problems you can go to the store and get some of that customer service stuff, which we are lucky to be able to say our local stores are very good at.
Good Luck.

HOPE YOU HAVEN'T FOLLOWED THROUGH YET. My friends with Yargas say to get the '07 design. When they re-did them for '08 they devolved to one with less range than the predecessor & they're also about $100 less! In general, the yargas were a c-kite with a bow bridle and had less range overall than the Waroos or the Bullaroos. This means as the wind builds or drops, more trips to shore to change kites. They are great for places with steady winds, but...

Aeolus
Although I've never flown one I'd probably stay clear of the 2008 yarga. I very much like my quiver of 2007 yargas but they are much different than the 2008 yargs being a hybrid or SLE (supported leading edge) kites rather than a true C kite like the 2008 yarga. I haven't read or heard much positive about the 2008 yarga. (Admittedly I am not keeping up current buzz or developments) Best is dumping them at steep discounts so I think they were NOT very popular and they have a lot to get rid of. I agree with Steve and would definitely suggest a bow or hybrid kite from anyone of the named brands which will be significantly more user friendly, particulary in gusty MN wind.

Hey Dude. I Baught one of those 9 Meter Yarga's.... 2008. Plus the C Kite Bar. This Kite Rocks... But You might as well not even fly it at all if your flying it 4 Line because it's not really made to fly four line and depower doesn't work four line and I doubt you'll ever get it lanched flying four line... 5 Line though. I honestly think it has just as much Depower as my SLE Kites. Re Launch With The 5 Line is a sinch, unless your really uncoordinated. Drift Launching is Kind of a Hor, but I got it my second try. This Kite rocks and seems very well made and Performs above and beyond My expectations. If it's the depower you're worried about, Don't worry. If it's five Lines your worried about, get an SLE... or 07 Yarga.
