i have been scouting various fields in the west metro and have already obtained permission from one property owner to kiteboard. Unforunately the field is smaller in size and can only support very few kiters .
Hopefully tomorrow I can get permission from one more owner after i meet with them to explain snowkiting and its low-no impact on the environment. This field should support 15-20+ kiters easily. Has cool rolling hills and sudden humps to (potentially) launch off . Wish me luck...I will give a full report with pics to follow.
I went out today and did some more scouting and unfortunately was unable to contact the second property owner. Must be gone for turkey...I'll try again after the holiday.
On the lighter side, I was able to locate some other potential sites just west of Lake MTKA. Here are some of the pics I took.
I'll keep updating my progress in finding a sweet spot for all of us to kite. I know the big tuna is out there waiting for us.

Yep...unfortunately of all the courses I've seen there are too many trees or other misc obstacles for one to safely kite. Let us know if you find a good one. thx
I have found a field in WI about 25 minutes No of EC. It looks like a great place, but what I was wondering is: How do you approach the land owner? What points do you stress? If I do ever find a place that is OK for kiting, I will certainly let you all know!!

Well, I think I lucked out the first time when I simply called the property owner. Luckily they had seen snowkiting on Lake MTKA last year! But later I followed up by talking with them in person and rehashing: snowkiting's low-no impact on the environment compared to that of snowmobiling; that kiters are a small tight-knit community of environmentally conscious people. For the grand finale I showed some pictures of casual-type snowkiting taken at the kite festival on Lake Harriet two years ago(?). Unexpectedly , they questioned me about kiters flying through the air super high. Two words to use if you have to explain this: slow descent.
I just had a ice sailing session in the bay of Pelican Lake just west of Albertville. The SW public access bay ice was solid & rough with texture + 1/4" of sticking snow. The Freeskate rode fine and kiting with edge control is possible. The main part still looks sketchy with wet spots.
Jason from Brainerd is checking the local lakes there and he will be reporting in Chat later. Friday could be a good Funhoggin Day somewhere.
