So I'm headed to maui for a wedding and turned it into a kite trip. But I need some advice:
I rode out at Cape Hatteras in July and felt good on my 145 SS board and 14 TD2 in 15 to 25. I rode around on a 9 as well but now there is a tear in the main strut. Should I try and get the 9 repaired or just head out there with the 14? Seems like the 14 has a decent wind range in the water.
There is no way to get the 145 into a travel golf bag. Any packing advice and anywhere in town that sells kite travel bags? (I saw a bunch at the Ride store and they all had golf logos on them)
Anyone ever camped on Maui? Any tips?

Re: Maui advice
I got an NSI travel bag @ Midwest Mountaineering. My big Underground board fits in it along with a couple of kites. Check with your airline for size & weight restrictions. Un-less it is a big repair, get your 9 fixed so you won't get aced out of big wind days after flying all that way. You could also check for rental or purchase prices out there. I know Terry has traveled there, & Randy J. used to live there. Have fun!

Yeah, my plan is to buy a nsi or slingshot bag then wear my wedding suit on the plane. I figure its highly unlikely they will question that I am a golfer.
Re: Maui advice
I just got a North bag from Larry at Scuba center and it Will fit a board up to 160. He ordered it for me and had it in less than a week. A little bit big but it worked well for me on a recent trip to the East Coast. It's not a "deceiver" but I did not have any trouble with US Air. They didn't ask on the way out. Coming back the woman asked what was in the bag and I just said "wakeboarding gear." No problems.
Re: Maui advice
My wife and I went out there last fall and had a blast! The only kites we flew were the 9 and 7, 7 out of 10 days. You could say it blows there, (in a good way)
Average wind speed was about 25 mph, that was last Oct. don't know about know.

Re: Maui advice
I would say definitly get your smaller kite repaired. October is starting to get into winter and nonwindy season (but wavey). Summer is pretty full on windy. Check out windguru.com for Maui. If it says steady 12-14, it pretty much means a lot more then that. Windsurfers will be on 5.0s and less pretty steadily in the summer time. As it gets to winter, the 14 could get you through. You can still sail a 5.3 most days being on the verge of planing (just slogging to wave ride), which I would think converts to a 14 perfectly.
Camping? Not too sure about that, should be able to find something, might just be a bit farther away. If your looking for a place to stay in a town, look in Paia. Its more or less 1/2 way between Kanaha (Kite Beach where you will probably ride) and Mecca (Hookipa).
There is lots to do if there is no wind too. Hiking, surfing, ect..
Have a great trip.

Re: Maui advice
Yeah, I called one of the schools and told them my stats and the guy basically said to leave the 14m at home, which is what I'm going to do. 9m should be fine unless its really light or really nukes, in which case i'll go rent a surfboard.
Brings into question the whole quiver issue. 9/14 has worked really well in the winter but still figuring out the best board size/kite size for water riding.
