Thursday'a Plan

Post by JimPat »

Thursday shows 24mph gusting to 32 and 80 degrees! The graph shows it blowing all day so who can get out early? I plan to be at the wac by 10 am; who can come out to play? Looks like 7m kites and 3.5m sails; I can't wait. I hope to get in a couple of kiting sessions and windsurfing sessions before 7pm. I plan to bring the jet ski should we need to rescue Tom Latchman again. Poor Tom broke an inside line 200 yards out from the beach on Monday. Thanks Diego, Luiz and Dave C for going out to get him on your windsurfers!

Sounds good Jim, I'll be out after work.

I had a bit of problems yesterday as well. In the middle of the lake, wiped out, lost my board and crashed the kite. The board was wakeboard boots down in the water. I got the kite up fairly quickly, but was at least 100 yards down wind of the board. I could see it, bit it just wasn't moving down wind due to the sea anchor of those boots. I tried to body drag up to it, but the water was so cold I didn't have the stamina to keep it up. After tying for at least 15 minutes, I gave it up and did a high speed body drag to the south shore. I was lucky and found an opening in the trees, got my kite to the road, wrapped it up and did the walk of shame back to the DNR launch. This is the first time I have been unable to get back to my board.

The board did turn up on the south shore around 45 minutes later. It had gotten flipped by a wave and started moving down wind more quickly. Moral of the story is, watch out for those pesky wakeboard boots and the effect they have on a drifting board. They are great when the board is upright, it makes the board move faster down wind; but they suck when the board is upside down. It was cold out there, like Tighe says, dress for the swim in.

Eric,
Smart call. Glad you made it back without freezing off any of your appendages :D

Interesting note about the boots.

Jim, I took the day off so I should be able to get there early except for the fact I just found out its my girlfriends birthday Thur. so I should probably go get her a present before I go to the Lake. Hope she likes a gift card for the Gas station.

I'm thinking about blowing out of work a little early (like 4) to head out there, watch, and say "hi". I sure could use a break since work has been so hectic lately. Unfortunately, I can't ride yet since I haven't taken a full set of lessons and I don't own all the equipment, but if nothing else, I could put some faces with names and such.

Where do you guys start from?

Next time find out ahead of time and then when it gets windy on the day you can shift things around a little. For now you just better make the sacrifice!

Dave.....Tell your girlfriend that you need to go shopping all day tomorrow. I'll see you at the windmall! The mall opens at 10am. Bring your sunscreen!

Elkman....we are on the northeast end of lake waconia. Take hwy 7 west go south on 92(at St. Boni) you'll see a sign for the lake access.

Tom........Glad to hear you got some time ontop of the water; you've earned it. Get that 7m ready for more action.

Chanrider......What's your eta? You need to play. Head the waconia way and plan to stay. Use the wind as your excuse to blow things off for tomorrow.

See ya all at the beach/launch.

Yep, Tuesday was my opener...sweet 9 td2 and slingshot 130 for 3 hours...today might be a bit gusty... might be on a bigger board today. Heading there at about noon...for sure by 1:45 pm when the wind siren goes off Really...

guys...haven't you guy had the "3 get our of jail free cards" yet"""?????

Here's how it works...Honey I l**e you...(fill in your word)... there will come a time when we have very important plans together....I will need to use my coupon to change our plans...We each get 3 coupons to change our plans...Since my wind addiction is ruled by mother nature and I can not predictor her ( better not to say you can't predict the mood of the GF at this point...) I need to be able to go to the lake and play...I only get a few days a year with wind this perfect...PLEASE>>>>!!!! now honey you get three coupons too to use when ever you want...Just not when the wind is bending the trees!!!!! Good luck guys and gals...
see you out there today...the only way I have found this works at work is to be your own boss...

Dave:

Congrats!!! Yeah Rob's right you will have to dish. You could be like Rob and take her to Clear Lake Iowa, have her pump up her NEW kite and you could fly it ALLLLLL DAYYY LONG!!! That might go over well  I would say no to the gas station gift card that may be pushing it. Scotts get out to play cards work well, Rob is that where you got the wind speech you gave me 3 years ago, I would say it has worked out really well  Do you need a refill on those cards??
