Help!! loking for kiters in Eau Claire, WI area?

Post by Jonesing4Wind »

I have been power kiting buggying, scudding, and jumping for about a year, now. I have not flown with anyone.... EVER!! I love it to bits, but some company would be fun, and safer! I fly razors, and ride a PLComp(buggy). I have some experience, and would love to get together with someone who shares my passion!! It doesnt matter if you board, ski dirtsurf or just fly static, I dont care! If you live close or know anyone in my area, let me know! Thanks, and good wind!!!!

Thanks, guys!! I just moved to EC, and am not too familiar with the area. I managed to find Cedar lake, a little N from New Richmond, right? Looks easy enough to get there. What side of the lake do you meet at? It looks like there is access to nearly all sides of it. What do you guys fly and ride? This may sound a little dumb, but I just moved here from Phoenix, AZ...... Can I buggy on the lake after it freezes? I have thoiught about quite a bit, and I have come to the fact that I will either have to put skis of some sort on the buggy, or on my feet. Anybody doing anything like this out there? Thanks again for the info!!

I went to school at UW-EC. Lake Wissota is just north of you in Chippewa Falls. It's a big lake and it was great for windsurfing and once it ices up I'm sure it would be good for any form of traction kiting. Just check with the locals on the safety of the ice since the lake feeds and is fed by a number of rivers so there are currents in a few spots.

Hi,

I've had my PL Comp out on the ice a few times in the last couple years. It's a lot of fun, but little control (with wheels). Plus, your butt tends to get hung up on snow drifts! Last year we found a guy up in the Fargo area that built us ski's that we could mount on the buggies. I didn't have mine until March and only had a few times to try it, but it really seemed to work well. I had a great time on it. The ski's put the buggy up off the snow about one foot. It was a lot of fun.

I have pictures of it if you would like me to send them to you. I'm not sure how to post them at this site.

I KNEW! someone had to have done it!! I will be snowbuggying yet!! I have already gone so far as to buy an old beater pair of downhill skis, and was trying to come up with the best mounting method. I would REALLY appreciate it if you could email me the pics!! Please send them to:

winter kiting

Post by steveb »

Sean, rep it looks as though you have found cedar lake. The simplest way to winter kite is skis or a snowboard on your feet, have a look at the kiting section on the lakawa page you'll see photos.
The buggy might be fun to try to adapt, but an old pair of skis and boots will probably be cheaper and easier. But hey go for it. Hope we get to see you on the snow.
