PADRE FOR ROCK BOTTOM

Post by Tighe »

I had one of our registered riders for our South Padre Surfari cancel and I have to fill an opening. I'll let the trip go for $600-$700. Air, local transport, and room. (all 10 days-4/17-4/27 or whatever works for you) That's less than $70 a day!!!

First come first serve. 651 dot 428 dot 4121

i don't need to reiterate how great Padre is.

just got back from 6 days at South Padre, rode everyday except the travel day down. Last year I learned to stay upwind there, and this year I took it the next step. What a great place! I also kited with lakawan Mike Kellet, which was fun, Mike!

Did the North Flatts the whole time, but the wind was different everyday, giving the launch a different character each time out. The wind was north, northeast, southeast, and straight offshore from the east. The straight offshore wind made for perfect, smooth water and plenty of steady wind to play in it. I was able to learn toeside both ways, carving healside turns while sometimes looping the kite, generally working on timing my board with the kite, so easy in the smooth water. Then on the other days I could move the new skills into chop and head out into the center of the Laguna Madre. Maybe boost a bit. A couple of days winds were calm midday but increased to enough for a large board and kite in the evening, or roared all morning at 25-35 kts then moderated to a perfect session at 18-25. We had 2 days of cold (65) weather. Many kiters had to stay off the water because they didn't have the wet suits to keep warm out there. The water was warm, no problem, but the air cold. What a shame, those days were great kiting days. I was fine with a thick shorty over a 1mm neoprene long-sleeve shirt. I recommend you bring some cold air gear, even this late in the spring.

Wish I could join the Lakawa folks later in the month; my schedule didn't work out way. Somebody grab that offer from Tighe!! SPI is fantastic for advancing your skills. And there are plenty of kiters and certified instructors to learn them from there. Next time it's in the waves and a downwinder on the east side!! :o

See you down there Steve.

Eric, you now know why Padre is so special. I've been down nearly a dozen times and still learn so much each time I"m down.

Chad from Souix Falls took me up on the offer and will be joining us for the first half of the trip.

Psyched beyond belief.

I just got back from a week of riding in Padre. We had awesome wind and an awesome time! The locals are grading a new beach a few hundred yards south of Holly, it should be done end of this week sometime.
