O'neill Drysuits?

Post by Bryce »

Anyone used any of the O'neill drysuits? They seem a little less expensive then the ocean rodeo pyro and such. I also like idea of neoprene bottoms on the hybrid suit. Then you wouldn't be as screwed if you had a hole. And not as much drag when I need to get back to my board...

Any any experience with neoprene neck seals?

I have one & have been happy with it. I've been out on WBL & Superior with air temps below 50 & in the water for extended periods & have been fine. I like the neo neck & cuffs for comfort & less restriction, & seem more durable than the latex version. Plus they slide easily under a seat harness. You do not get the fleece liner like the BARE brand, but I have worn polyprop long johns in extreme cold. O'neil has long been a respected brand & make a good product. If you're in the Cities, stop by the HOUSE & try them on.

I bought the Oniel suit last year at The House. I was kinda between sizes (5'11" 190 lb) and went with the XL. I had trouble keeping the water out so I returned it. I got the Ocean Rodeo suit and that thing ROCKS! Kinda tight in the neck but lets in very little water for me. Has anyone heard of breaching the bag on one of these dry suits? I imagine a tear could be a big deal out in the water. Tight lines!

While in the water a tear in the suits not a big deal, apart from the fact the waters freezing. It's when you try to get out of the water that you'll feel the weight.

If your neck gator on a baggy suits very tight you can trim it. You need a minimum of a quarter inch of flat contact between the gasket seal and your neck.Anything additional seal contact can be trimmed which will make the neck gasket far more comfortable.I always have Nancy do it as she's much better at following the trim lines on the gasket with the scissors than I am.

I have had the Ocean rodeo pro suite now for two going on three years and it is a very nice suite, I have never gotten any large amounts of water in other than when you wipe out real hard, you will get water in no matter what you do other than that it's toasty warm and comfortable. I made the mistake and getting a long XL and it's too long in the legs but I make it work anyway. I might just go with a thick wetsuit this year, i needa new one anyway my 3/4 steamer is 7 years old and torn in a few places but not to bad.

I have one, going into fourth season. very comfortable and highly recommend it. found bare too stiff and hard to get in and get out. When it gets too cold, I wear a few thicker rash guard looking in-liners.
