If the "base" holds up through today, and we do get 4"-8", riding could be quite nice!

Lets hope Mille gets some of that. Locally, we got 4 or so inches of heavy powder last night, Lake of the Woods should be looking good 8)

its in the forecast for Mille Lacs so lets hope they are right. the webcam looks a little icy so some new powder is needed. i just booked my room at the Inn before the storm because if we get dumped on, I have a feeling rooms might fill up quick.

let it snow!

Is White Bear the best option for NE to N? I haven't done enough winter riding around the cities here to know the best spots. I know it doesn't work at the DNR launch in Waconia, but maybe the public beach works. Other spots besides Kite Island better for North wind??? I'll be somewhere early--looking forward to a sweet day of wind and powder!

WBL, if there IS an ideal direction? The shape formed by Manitou Is. & the adjacent point always factor into the equation. If it has more of a North component, riding the gap between the point & the island works. Last snow season we enjoyed sessions off the shore by the Boatworks & Tally's Marina when there was more of an East wind. Otherwise,
Manitou can shadow the wind on a NE. I hope to either launch near Bellaire or by the Marina depending on the heading.

Does Bellaire work for 4-wheel'n on a north wind? there's a pretty good fish house course set up.

The wind should work well in the bay in front of my house. So, if anyone wants to launch in "KITE BAY" just park on the lake side of South Shore Blvd in front of my house and get on the lake by my flag. Parking on the south side of the street is very dangerous in a storm, I lost a mail box last night when the snow melt froze. :D :D :D
Heads up on the POWER LINES on the Blvd. (Norman, no need to worry about the mud)

How about for the west side of town? Anything on Tonka or other lakes work well for a NE wind? I have not been to Kite Island with a NE.

Check out the Tonka winter access map:

http://www.loweprofile.com/misc/tonkamap.htm

Access points 3,6,10 are all OK launches. The main bay lines up nice for NE but no perfect launches. Kite Island is pretty good with the wind coming through Wayzata Bay but the fetch is short. #6 Cottagewood might be the best but it does not have drive on access. Any access on the East or West side of the main lake will work but on some you may have to sail out aways to get wind. The best option might be to just drive out into the middle of the bay from 2,7, or 10. There are no pressure ridges on Tonka this year so you can drive anywhere. Probably need 4x4 by afternoon.

I just got back into town from Mille. There was 2 inches of snow on the ground when I left at 9:30 and white out conditions till just north of Cambridge. I got out for a small session on the lake yesterday - not much of a base and several bare spots. If it keeps coming down, Mille could be excellent. Just plan a lot of additional drive time - I averaged about 35 mph till I got out of the snow.

Is anyone seeing anything promising for the next few days? The wind forecasts I'm seeing don't look great.

Snowing 2+ inches an hour in Bloomington right now. It might be too hairy to drive to Waconia.... I am thinking Cottagewood now... Anyone else want to try out their new snow tires???
