It seems like tomorrow will be the warmest day, with a high of 40. (Crazy weather in this Land O'Lakes; you locals don't even seem to notice these 30 degree temperature swings.)
I'm thinking of heading out early afternoon. I'll stick to Harriet or Calhoun, unless other friendly folk will be out as well. Let me know if you're going to WBL, Waconia or Mtka.
Cheers,
Marc

Re: Friday afternoon?
I notice them Marc. Growing up here all my life, it's been the norm for it not to go above freezing for most of Dec-Feb, at least that's how I remember it. Now the sine wave of temperatures happens to peak out at around 35 - 40 degrees. I wonder about the damage the melting and refreezing does to everything manmade - roads, houses, etc, since the water repeatedly gets to soak into materials and then freeze. It used to happen a couple of times a season and now it's weekly.
Doesn't do much for the powder either. The nice warm days in February have their perks though.

Re: Friday afternoon?
Friday might be great.
It seems that if you catch the temps in the low 30's the hardpack will become soft enough for a good edge but not soft enough to slow you down. That means maybe tomorrow will be good late in the morning but be too slow later on.. am I right? That's how it worked last week when we had 45F.
I'm going to try Big Marine as soon as the wind reaches about 8kt and the temps approach freezing. I flew over the lake today and there are still large areas without truck ruts. Most of the bay on the south is good and you can still have enough fetch.
