East side today?

Post by wingnut »

Anyone kiting on the east side today? I didn't get any takers for kiting the Croix and would prefer to kite with others. WBL? Cedar? Big Marine? Looks like a nice day!

Just checked out Big Carnelian (8 north of Stillwater) where a SSW wind works well, and there's a nice inch or two of powder on much of the surface. Will be there starting a friend out on his skis until around 1 (I can follow him around on my ATV), then probably head over to Big Marine later on for stronger westerlies if the forecast holds true.

I was out at Big Marine today... good snowy base. Nice to carve on. Wind was pretty steady but didn't pick up til later in the afternoon. I built a 7 foot igloo in the eastern most bay (using this... http://www.grandshelters.com) for my buddies kids 'cause they were bored watching their dad ice fish and drink beer. Built the 7-footer in 80 minutes with the snowball sticky snow. Hope to get out tomorrow if the City of Lakes Loppet doesn't sap all my energy.

Rocked!
It was super great to get out, and absolutely worth going, even though I knew it would be for only 1/2 hour or so.

At the Bear, was rigged up by 5pm. Tighe, Kurt, Mike and a few people were still there then. Sunny, still about 45º. Snow was glowing. Got lucky adn the wind kicked in hard right when I got there, gusting up to 30. Snow cover was good, and the temps softened it up from the sub zero hard slightly rutted stuff it had been. Edging was great, and had a fantastic 30 minutes of pre-sunset bliss. It is beautiful being out there while you are in the "shade" on the snow and your kite is glowing above in the sunset.

Looking forward to Sunday!

wow what a day. They always wizz by so fast. Great to see all the kids out. Scott OConnor's girl was rippin it up, Max and Graham were stylin, Keith's son (sorry bad with names), and Westin Will!

Rodger, Randy, Scott C and Scott O get the big points for giving up their riding time to get others stoked and riding.

So much fun playin in the warm wind. One of the best days in memory...was it last spring???

Have fun tomorrow.

A big thank you to Tighe and Rodger for helping my daughter Megan with tips, techniques and encouragement on her first day on skis with the kite. She's hooked now! Best day on the WBL this winter so far. Cheers for many more and snow from Ullr.

A BANNER WEEKEND ON WBL. Great weather, wind , & riding with friends both new & old. Today was a little rougher with areas of frozen crust, but a nice steady breeze. A little ski wax made a big difference. A nice turnout for day two with hopes we get more sessions soon.
