T2 vs T3

Post by JimPat »

Someone asked me the differences between the T2 and a T3. Since I've only flown T3's I couldn't be of much help. I only knew the bar is different and safer and there is a one number difference between a 2 and a 3. So as you can see I don't know much! Maybe Tighe, Johny Z and some of you other wise guys could enlighten us. I also told him I didn't think the T2 will stand on it's wing tip like the T3 at the edge of the window or does it? THANKS, Jim H

Good start Jim
Both kites will sit calmly for you at the edge of the window if you let go of the bar (to put a board on, take a break etc.)
The T3s have a slightly shallower draft so fly a bit faster and further forward in the window.
The T3s have the below the bar leash attachment and the T2s have the attachment above the bar. (the new system is safer and more convenient)
The T3s offer reliable reride, ie. the below the bar safety and shorter bridles allow you to easily relaunch the kite after flagging.
The T3s have the capability to be ridden in 1:1 mode whereas the T2s do not
The T3s have a new grip on the bar
The T3s have a smooth leading edge, with recessed seams etc.

Both are great kites. The biggest difference in my mind is the below the bar safety on the T3s.

Well said, Tighe.

To be honest, Jim, I was slow to get on the TD bandwagon, so I hadn't flown the T2 too much.

I sure love my T3 - it is so easy to deal with, the range is superb, and the construction is tough.

Thinking about getting another one :o

I'm a brand new kiter. After doing some research for what's best for me, I chose to go with Turbo Diesel. The used kite I bought (the original TD) is in great condition and price was right (under a $300). Can anyone shed some light on if all the T2 and 3s are still very similar in design to the original. I figured that with such praise when that kite came out, and the fact that the kept on introducing new models, the design itself was worth keeping the same.

Heading out to Calhoun around 3 and will be flying a blue and green TD!
