I lost my Ice Screw and was wondering if anyone knows of where I can find a good deal in town for a replacement....short of finding one on Calhoun

I was wondering the same thing. I did meet a guy on calhoun and he had an awesome set up as far as ice screws go. If he reads this (Pedro), please do say where you got that set up. Thanks.

I got mine on ebay for $26.55 They're called Ushba ice screws, 22cm in length... works well for me. I wonder who the heck has been stealing ice screws??? I usually hook my kite bag to the screw while I'm riding, so I can spot my stuff while I'm riding and find it when I'm done. We can bait this thief on calhoun with a weak crappy screw... when he/she goes climbing and falls that will make some news.

Last year I picked up 3 of them for 25 bucks each. Someone posted a link from a climbing site to a thread on this site. I can't remember the site but maybe the person that linked it will see this and reply. Otherwise you can always get them at Midwest Mtn. But they are like 65 bucks. Ouch! Good luck.

$65 is a little steep. $39.95 at Midwest Mtn, or about $55 with a express crank for faster turning. They are Black Diamond screws which are about as good as they come (four teeth that are super sharp).

what about a store like gander Mountain, Cabelas, or REI?? i bet any of those would have several. i dont know how much money youd spend, but i know REI will have somem cause their your ultimate "granola" store that includes climbing, hiking, and kayaking, so sure theyd have an ice screw.

Sierra Trading Post has them for $30+ on line, but I'd rather give my $'s to MW Mtn. REI's are more than $50!

I'm using a bicycle storage screw right now and a cordless drill with a lanyard and carabiner I pulled together from my garage. $0. I'll get a nice ice screw after I pay my taxes and find a good deal. Tight Lines!

If you want 2, looks good. 1 to launch with & another to carry with you. I like the bag idea, too.

I lost my x-mas present, a Black Diamond screw, out @ rush last weekend. (probably during an extra long belly drag) I've been keeping it in my coat pocket when I'm out so I can anchor where ever I happen to be when I screw up. I thought about clipping it to a little ring on my harness but I am afraid of impaling myself with it. Does any body have a good idea as to where to carry it while out where you have easy access and small risk of injury. Maybe a holster on your boot?

Not sure if these are still available, but keep checking MinnesotaClimbing.com. I've seen some used deals there before.

There is a little plastic tube gizmo they call a flute which allows you to carry a screw with you clipped on a belt. Still a risk of losing it.
I really don't think you should have it in a pocket.

Heres an idea.

Try a rubber cap made for furniture on the tip of your screw. Available at the hardware store. Then you can hang it or put it in a pocket. I like that idea of the PVC tube on the spreader bar, too. Might have to try that.

The best way to carry the ice screws is to use an ice flute. These can be attached to any straps on a harness and keep you safe from the sharp teeth and edges. Here's a web site to order them in packs of 5.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up,totally worn out and loudly proclaiming. WOW! What a ride!!
