Gathering

Post by steveb »

Saturdays looking lame, but Sunday there's supposed to be a nice NW breeze.
What do you think of gathering Sunday at Mahtomedi, White Bear Lake, to have a get together?.
Just a suggestion for the lake but it has space and is OK for NW while fairly centrally located.

Sounds like the place to be if there's a breeze!

Hey,
Rode on Forest Lake yesterday and there is enough snow to make it fun! (2-3 inches) So if WBL isn't doable, Forest Lake might be the better choice! Mark already offered up his place...

Kurt, Geoff and I rode in the bay N of Mahtomedi yesterday. It is doable on skis, but I think the snowboard crowd will be disappointed unless we get more snow. 1-2 inches of snow with ice patches and bumpy underneath.

Was concerned about that. Hopefully the system coming in tomorrow will improve the conditions.

Forest lake is another option though not sure where we'd gather for a NW wind.

What about Rush lake up near Rush City?

Lake Washington is another option.

Rode Washington Thurs. on skis. Very rough but with a little new snow the W-NW should work decent on Sun. The east end of the lake has held more of the recent snow. Rode Ripley in the afternoon. Lots of bare spots and very rough. Session ended in a tumbling role of skis and kite when the gusts exceeded 40mph. Had some broken equipment and a long walk back. Great exercise.

Any chance one of the locals could check WBL saturday and let the rest of us know if it's doable?.

I'm up for whatever except to Milly, I don't think I would drive that far when I have plenty of lakes around where I live?

The lakes in the Forest Lake area have good conditions that are far better than WBL. I stopped by to check out Forest Lake on my way back from Milly last night. You can drive on from the downtown access and from the public access on the east side of the southern-most lake. A better option for a NW wind would be the public access on the Southeast side of Green Lake. It has a big parking lot and you can probably drive on. It is only another 5 or 10 min. Northwest of Forest Lake and has a long fetch for a N, NW or W wind. Looks like more snow is on the way Saturday. :D

Hope we get a good crowd out on Sunday wherever we end up. Green Lake would likely have more snow and Parking than Mahtomedi at WBL

Man, Milly was fun yesterday.

The plowed roads, the snowbanks and snow piles that those created were like a never ending skateboard park!

2-3" on Forest Lake doesn't sound so great. Does anybody know about the depth on Green or on Rush Lake?

C'mon, snow!!!!

Graham,
We're exploring other options since the conditions at Mahtomedi are questionable (read thread). Keep your eyes on the posts,we should have this figured out by the time the wind comes up...

We were at Green Lake (Chisago Co) yesterday, conditions are the same as as Forest Lake (1-2.5"). Don't know about Rush, I heard they got more snow than Forest Lake area.

Well, the conditions on Milly were pretty spectacular yesterday. I had some nice faceplants, but there was enough snow to cushion my high speed landings. The only problem was that the ice was pushed down with all the snow, so you leave wet prints as you walk, and there are some slushy spots.

With more snow, it should be great on Sunday. The winds will be directly from the West, so anywhere on the East side of the lake would work. Malmo worked well on Thursday. My vote is for Milly again. Here are some pics from Jason's lens.
