Calhoun sunday

Post by Florida kiter »

Anyone want to ride calhoun today? I'm in uptown and would like to get out on the snow for the first time. I'll go out to WBL if that's where everybody is riding, but Calhoun is definitely closer.

i should be out there by noon. hopefully it warms up a little by then because it is wicked cold right now.

A friend just called and he is rigging up right now on Calhoun... Also, after talking to a few people yesterday it sounds like there should be some others out there as well.

i was out a 9m fuel (orange/tan). Good turn out in the afternoon despite the cold temps. I might be back out for a night session this week if anyone is interested. See what happens with the forecast.

classic cold snap day on calhoun. Better than average base. lots of powdery drifts, very mobile surface, and only a very few bare areas--and they were whole areas that you could easily avoid, rather than bare spots mixed in with the snow. The lake was covered at least 97% with nice, crisp powder.

Thanks to Mike M for letting me use his Frenzy. Means I didn't have to use a pump in those frigid temps. What a guy.

I'm sure I saw a lot of friendly people, but no one was recognizable behind their extensive head and face gear. This was not a day to "bare your soul" to the world. Your soul would freeze off and get left behind in a snow drift if you did that. Anyway, greetings to everybody there. One hotshot showed up and was doing 720's with his rev. I thought maybe it was Hunter?? Looking good dude.

A slight kitemare ensued as we were leaving. It looked like the guy's foil just got a little out of control and he ended up getting dragged. Hope everything turned out okay. Take it as slow as you need to. We don't want any kites getting loose and ending up on the road by calhoun, causing a car accident or worse. Someone's pug or bichon-frise could get tangled up in a runaway kite. The horror.

There were a good group of people out yesterday, Leah got to play with her new T3 and John Z was rocking out! Denis made it all look to easy and Eu Han mastered his turns!
This was my first time at Calhoun and I will admit I found it really frustrating. There were a lot of dead spots when it was obviously blasting for others, I am guessing that the buildings shelter the wind in certain directions.
Anyway, a fun way to spend a Sunday afternoon without having to drive for an hour :)

So i take it Calhoun is good to go? I can't imagine that there are to many lakes out there that are not safe anymore with the temps being what they have been for the last few weeks. Any warnings out there still for certain lakes?
