jumping advice for skates?
should one pull his knees to his chest after initial lift off? I had my legs stiff through the whole jump, lost control of the kite once and came crashing down on my hip.
Re: jumping advice for skates?
Jumping on skates? That sounds super fun but extremely painful!
Re: jumping advice for skates?
The I have down on skates I am more in a "ready" position, meaning not stiff legged or knees to chest but just a little bent ready to land. I have found that if your skates are not straight when you come down you can tweak your ankles very easily and theres nothing you can do about that but hope you are lined up right. For laning on my hips it doesnt seem to bother me when I have my hockey goalie pants on with hockey shin guards basicly just bounce on them and slid untill I can get the kite to neutral.
Re: jumping advice for skates?
yes tuck those kness up , its brings your center of gravity together .
helps you stay balanced and in control and keep control of your kite at the same time...
I wear snowboard under armor jockey shorts that are padded under my snowpants when icekiting , with skateboard knee and elboy pads under my jacket ... once I fall its just like a vert ramp go to the pads and slide out and and put the kite to nuetral like Mikef said (sometime Ill power it up the other direction that im sliding to slow me down or regain my skates back under me and take off)
Dra and I jumping da moon.

Re: jumping advice for skates?
Isn't your kite a little too high nathan?
Just kidding; that looks really fun. I'm definitely going to try it as soon as possible--with pads!

Re: jumping advice for skates?
HaHa Nate that clip is ancient. Tryin to rep wake style even on skates.
I would say tuck the knees to a comfortable spot and conentrate on keeping complete kite control through the whole boost.
But yea, Ice kiting is way fun!!!

Re: jumping advice for skates?
trying to learn how to jump on bare ice without full hockey pads might be a bad idea - thanks for the feedback
Re: jumping advice for skates?
not a bad call , I started using hockey gear but moved to skateboard elbow and knee pads and snowboard padded short ,, its less restricting and more comfortable and the pads are built (more cush) for impact.. helmet is a no brainer
and I would recomend getting Ice pics that snap together, I where them around my neck just in case you wanna be able to get them asap, Jer-dog "the legend" taught me that one, thanks Jerry
he even made his own I got mine at a hardware store in there fishing sectoin for like 5bucks def worth it if needed.
