MT. RAMSEY???
Mt. Ramsey (aka old ramsey landfill) has yet to be successfully kited. I attempted it last spring but the snow was to sticky and to much long grass. The wind was so clean at the top which is super wide. It takes perfect conditions alot of snow in a short amount of time. The ground never really gets hard so snow cover can melt very quickly if there are a few warm days. It can almost be kited any night in the winter, It is high enough to see Minneapolis and St. Paul which are about 35miles away. With all the city lights surrounding it, it is almost always possible to see at night like its daylight. plenty of rigging room wind will work from any direction. The best spot in the cities, there is only one problem you have to jump a fence to get in. I have lived in ramsey for years have been sleding the hill since I was 12 never been in trouble. My buddy lives across the street so parking isn't a problem we just walk through the woods across the street and over the fence and the hike to the summit begins. Takes about 10-15min. If anybody would be down when the snow falls don't be scared take the hike you will not be sorry.
Re: MT. RAMSEY???
Can you give a link to a map of this location? I'd like to see where exactly it is. I have been looking for kite-able terrain with vertical deviation other than farmer's fields for the last few years. Farmer's are soooo damn crabby when it comes to riding their land. The waiver thing is nearly impossible to get. If this doesn't work out, I may just move my family to another state such as Utah. After all, there are plenty of aerospace companies out there.... errrrrhhh, don't take me too seriously, I have been drinking the silver bullet.
I am interested though.

sounds great, kid. Most folks from around here only know how to ice skate. Anything Mt. sounds great to me, since I am stuck here for the entire winter. I hate the flat lands. There will be a gathering at Mt. Bachelor this winter for anyone willing to kite the real stuff.

I'm going to be at bachelor for a few days in January. Interested to know where folks kite around there.

rahlberg- if you are heading out there get ahold of these guys they know the scoop on Mt bachelor. http://www.bendkitecrew.com
there is actually some good terrain to be had in MN ya just got to get out there and explore, drive a good ways away from the metro to find the goods (I would head west on 12
)
the one problem with MN is it doesnt get the snow like out west , but MN has alot accessable locations that you can drive right up to, just have to find em ..
Mike you crack me up man! there are plenty of folks that can rip on the shred sticks in MN (skiz n boredz) and cmon whats with the bagging on skates, hockey rules and so does ice kiting with them

Re: MT. RAMSEY???
Mt. Ramsey is located in Ramsey right across the street from Sunfish lake. I google earth it but don't know how to get the short cut to show up all zoom in on the hill. If anybody can help go for it. I will take some pics this weekend and post them. Let me stress this is only a night spot, It would be pretty easy for people to spot kites from miles away during the day.

Re: MT. RAMSEY???
I grew up very close to this spot, and saw the potential except for the barbed wire fence surrounding it, looks very ridable, post some shots if you get a sick session there, I would be stoked to see someone riding the ramsey landfill, plus there is a huge development that was stalled in ramsey might be some good natural terrain.

THAT IS A BEAUTIFUL MOON-LIT SHOT, NATE! I can only imagine how much fun you & Matt must have had. Only in MN would we get excited about kiting on a mountain of GARBAGE, & then there is actually a law against doing it. As they say in the Garage Logic Handbook, "The state where nothing is allowed."

SORRY, old eyes, dirty glasses with a new 'scrip, & I'm off in my own world. Can you spell Magoo? Tell Matt to watch his rear-view mirror...We're going to tail him 'til he gives away the secret!
It still looks like a full moon shot to me.
No, not THAT kind of moon, you sickos!

Parley lake, loved that hill. I used to snowboard there before I even knew what a kite was.
